Twenty-one year old Katie Washington will make history in a few days when the Gary, Indiana native graduates with a perfect 4.0 GPA at the University of Notre Dame, becoming the first black valedictorian in the school’s 168-year history.
Washington, a biology major and minor in Catholic social teaching, said she is humbled and “I am in a mode of gratitude and thanksgiving right now. I have had so much support, people who really wanted to see that I reached my full potential.
