New Music Drake ~ We Made It Freestyle (feat. Soulja Boy)

NEW MUSIC: DRAKE – ‘TROPHIES’

Drake’s been making fans hold out on hearing “Trophies” for months now but the wait has finally come to a close. The Hit-Boy produced track serves as the second release of what’s expected to include 4 or 5 songs from Drizzy by the end of 2013. Yesterday he released a “We Made It” freestyle, featuring Soulja Boy.
Was this really a leftover from Nothing Was the Same? Based on the celebratory theme of this and yesterday’s release, I’d take this as Drake’s victory lap on a great year.

Drake To Build Recording Studio For Philadelphia’s Strawberry Mansion High School

(AllHipHop News) Young Money recording artist Drake is giving back to a local Philadelphia high school by promising to build a brand new recording studio for students aspiring to becoming performers. The “Started From The Bottom” rapper surprised kids at Strawberry Mansion High School with the announcement during a taping of an ABC News special.
“In the next few months I’m building a recording studio inside your school,” Drake told the students. “This about you. This about your principal. This about your future. I love you. I care about you. I want to see you succeed.”
Strawberry Mansion was featured on a World News with Diane Sawyer special report in May. The “Hidden America” segment covered the school’s principal Linda Cliatt-Wayman, faculty, and students in a what was dubbed “one of the most dangerous high schools in America.” Sawyer returned to SMHS to do an update on the school’s progress and brought Drake along to speak with the students.

Civil TV: Nipsey Hussle #Crenshaw Documentary

In anticipation of his forthcoming mixtape Crenshaw, Nipsey Hussle takes Civil TV on a tour of where Slauson Ave. meets his old stomping grounds to provide the backdrop for a project, he says, will excite the streets. “The album is more about great records and great songs.
I know they’ve been waiting. I know it’s been a long time,” Neighborhood Nip says. “But it’s well worth it.” The 28-year-old L.A. representer salutes major label execs in our 5-minute clip but explains why he continues to fuel his indie musical journey solo. “It’s 2013. We know the change that’s taking place. We know the outlets and connection and the reach that artists can have. And my thing is, I want every penny I’m entitled to. I want as much percentage that I’m entitled to, and I don’t believe that I’m wrong.” So what’s the intention of his new album artwork? “The intention for a cover is not to represent my gang affiliation. That’s not the intention of an album cover. That’s the intention of your actions in the streets or in a place where gang activity takes place at.
I just took a page from magazines. You look at every magazine logo from Time to Newsweek to XXL. What color are them logos? Them logos all red. That’s the most attention grabbing color. Ain’t got nothing to do with gang banging.” The Gangster Grillz release hosted by DJ Drama is due out Oct. 8 exclusively on DatPiff.com.

Civil TV: Dom Kennedy 'Get Home Safely' Documentary

With his anticipated album Get Home Safely releasing next week, Dom Kennedy takes Civil TV to his old stomping grounds and personal studio. “Leimert Park just got a lot of the best shit period in the city”, the OPM leader states. “I’m just trying to keep it going.” Speaking about some of his fondest memories, Dom speaks on how an area riddled with black-owned businesses, large billboards sporting rappers and, more importantly, people who cared. “When people say how do what I do? It’s like how do I not do what I do? All these people surviving, you know what I’m saying, selling what they sell, doing what they do and they happy, shit, for the most part,” Dom states. “You may not have as much as whoever, but you got what you got and it’s yours, what’s better than that?” But the LA neighborhood didn’t just spawn the Dodgers-loving lyricist’s affinity for music, it whipped up the idea to build the Other People’s Money brand. ”All of this came from my notebook and really being on the road. I be on the back of the tour bus and a lot of downtown sometimes. You may have a day off and I would just jot down little things I see and take pictures of stuff,” Dom discloses before shedding light on the Ready To Die tee for this season. While crafting Yellow Album, Dom’s street sensibilities, business-savvy and all-around laid-back demeanor landed him in one of the biggest MC’s home–Rick Ross. “I’m banging with Rick Ross. If his album comes out, I know it’s going to be hard. Anything that he do, because I’m a fan of what he do. His work ethic is the reason why he is one of the best at what he do today.” Watch the mini-doc of Dom Perignon and his road to Get Home Safely. The LP is available in Best Buy stores next Tuesday (Oct. 15). Pre-order now on iTunes. - See more at: http://www.karencivil.com/2013/10/07/civil-tv-dom-kennedy-get-home-safely-documentary/#sthash.P59RvG60.dpuf
