2 Chainz Explains Not Recording With Jay Z

2 Chainz is prepping his sophomore album Based On A T.R.U. Story 2: Me Time, and the Atlanta rapper explained why a certain superstar won't be making an appearance on the project. He said that Jay Z won't be dropping a guest first on his album.
"I see who Hov rocks with. Hov rocks with people who he respect and who has glimpses of trap on their resume. I'm a recovering d-boy. I'm a recovering d-boy and he is, too," Chainz said in an interview.
"I do have something I thought would be cool for this album, but I got to talkin' to 'Ye. I'm like, 'Ye, what you think about putting Hov on this one? He was like, 'Me Time,' in all caps," he added. "He just told me just to go hard on n***as."

Rick Rubin Talks "Magna Carta Holy Grail"

Famed superproducer Rick Rubin recently spoke to XXL about Jay-Z's upcoming album,Magna Carta Holy Grail and revealed that he enjoyed the project, but that it was very different from what he's just done with Kanye West on West's new album Yeezus.
“I liked what I heard, but it was a little difficult—after just coming from the Kanye sessions—to listen to Jay’s album, because they’re so different. I was in a very alternative and progressive headspace, and Jay’s record is a more traditional hip-hop record,” Rubin revealed.
He also shared that he isn't actually a producer on Jay's album, and explained why he was featured in a Samsung commercial promoting the project.
“The point of me being in the commercials was that he was filming a documentary and he asked me—I imagine he’s just comfortable talking to me—to come listen to the songs with him and just talk about the songs," Rubin said. "Just listen to it and talk about it, and that’s what we did. It was fun.”

Jay-Z Replies To Lil Wayne Diss On Holy Grail Album

Jay-Z has finally issued a response to Lil Wayne's "I'm Good." Weezy released the track on 2011's Tha Carter IV, and on the song he rapped "I got your baby money / Kidnap your b*tch, get that how much you love your lady money."
On the new track, "La Familia," from Jay's upcoming Magna Carta Holy Grail album, Jay fires back.
“Wanna kidnap wifey / Good luck with that bruh / You must gonna hide your whole family / What you think we wearing black for / Ready for that war / Ready for that war ready / You ain't ready, yo, you radio," spits Jay.
The two have been trading subliminal disses for years. Jay's new album is due to be released on July 4th.

Inside "Magna Carta Holy Grail" with JAY Z + Samsung

Samsung to Give Away 1 Million Copies of Jay-Z’s New Album

Getty Images
Jay-Z on February 17, 2013 in Houston, Texas.
As the Miami Heat faced off against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA finals Sunday night, a curious TV ad aired near the end of the second quarter featuring rap star Jay-Z in a studio, riffing with a cast of characters including producer Rick Rubin and artist Pharrell Williams. At one point, a member of the posse is shown taking notes on a tablet device. More than two minutes into the three-minute video Samsung Electronics Co. 005930.SE +0.51%’s tagline flashes across the screen: “The Next Big Thing.”
The connection: Samsung has purchased 1 million copies of Jay-Z’s coming album, entitled “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” slated for release July 4, and plans to give them to Samsung Galaxy smartphone users for free – 72 hours ahead of the release. The users are to receive the music through an app they’ll receive later this month. (Recipients won’t be able to share it until the official release date.)
Samsung paid $5 apiece for the albums, according to a person familiar with the matter. It wasn’t immediately clear if Nielsen SoundScan will count Samsung’s purchases in its sales tallies.
The partnership could help Samsung compete with Apple Inc. AAPL -1.36%, which recently announced the launch of iTunes Radio – an online radio service bundled onto Apple devices that promises to offer listeners access to certain tracks before they’re available elsewhere.
For Jay-Z, the deal is a precious advertising opportunity and gives him $5 million in sales before the album is even released. The agreement signals the increasing importance of corporate sponsors to the music industry, which has seen sales tank over the past decade.
Jay-Z hinted at the partnership on Twitter two days ago with a photo of a Samsung smartphone displaying text telling fans to “tune in” to the game.
Neither Samsung nor Jay-Z could immediately be reached for comment.

Hot DAYUM!
We knew BeyoncĂ© and Jay-Z had more money than they knew what to do with, but billions?!
That’s like a whole lotta millions!
And it’s just what one of our fave couples has as Bey and Jay have been named pop’s first billion dollar couple.
We're guessing their 99 problems are GONE!
The two crossed the mark thanks to hard-working Bey's H&M bikini dealand her rockin' hot tour!

Pitbull Defends Jay-Z

Cuban-American rapper Pitbull has voiced his support for Jay-Z in the wake of the latter's controversial trip to Cuba. Pitbull released a freestyle over Jay's recent "Open Letter" track, making it clear he has no issue with Jay's visit to his home country.
"Politicians love to hate you/ But then they run away when it's time to debate you.Question of the night:/ would they have mess with Mr. Carter if he was white?/ Hmmm, rhyme with treasury/ One way another in Cuba is where they'll bury me/ Happy 5th year anniversary, Jay and B/ don't worry it's on me," Pitbull raps.
Jay-Z came under fire from several right-wing pundits for his trip, which was to celebrate he and his wife Beyonce's 5th wedding anniversary.

White House Responds to Jay-Z's 'Open Letter' Obama Lyrics

"It's a song, Donovan. The President did not communicate with Jay-Z over this trip," press secretary Jay Carney tells Politico reporter

Jay-Z's new song "Open Letter," a response to criticism over his and Beyonce's trip to Cuba, has racked up nearly 500,000 listens in just a few hours. Now we know that some of those plays came from the White House and the reporters that cover it.
During a White House press briefing earlier today, Politico reporter Donovan Slack asked White House Press Secretary Jay Carney whether President Obama gave Jay-Z and Beyoncé clearance for their travel, based off a lyric from the rapper's just-released song "Open Letter."
After reciting the lyric (“I turned Havana into Atlanta... Boy from the hood/ I got White House clearance... Obama said, 'Chill you gonna get me impeached/ You don’t need this shit anyway, chill with me on the beach'"), Slack asked Carney if Obama did indeed give Jay-Z clearance.
Carney brushed off the question with sarcasm: "I guess nothing rhymes with Treasury... because Treasury offers and gives licenses for travel, as you know, and the White House has nothing to do with it."
"I am absolutely saying that the White house from the President on down had nothing to do with anybody's travel to Cuba that is something that Treasury handles.," he continued.
And if Carney didn't make himself clear before, he shut down the conversation by denying White House approval straight forward.
"It's a song, Donovan. The President did not communicate with Jay-Z over this trip."
Following the presser, Slack tweeted some suggestions for words that rhyme with Treasury.

Obama Daughters Like Frank Ocean

The Obamas are pretty cool with the music elite. After all, Beyonce and Jay-Z have hosted fundraisers and attended inaugurations, Bruce Springsteen comes around to kick it every now and then--they're pretty cool with the elder statesmen of the game. But what about the kids? The First Lady revealed during an appearance on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" that her kids are fans of Frank Ocean--and other music that their parents may not like.
"They don't really listen to us," Michelle Obama said. "They try to hip us to stuff, you know, I learned about Elle Varner because of Malia and they like Frank Ocean, we are Beyoncé devotes. But there's some music that they'll tell us, 'I think the music is too rough for you.' I'm like, 'Really?' ... They don't allow us to just listen to anything. They're looking out for our well-being."
