Nelly Sued By American Express

Rapper Nelly is being sued by American Express for an outstanding debt that the star owes. Nelly reportedly has accumulated a $20,000 debt with the credit card company. American Express has decided to pursue legal action to collect the monies owed.

It is being reported that the company filed the suit back in October and have subsequently added an additional $3,000 in legal fees as well.

According to TMZ, a court hearing has been set of January 9th, 2012. Nelly nor his spokespeople have issued a statement regarding the lawsuit.

Nelly Defends His Street Cred

Nelly felt the need to defend his street cred in a recent interview. The St. Louis rapper's popularity has been in decline compared to his early 2000s heyday, and some have suggested he may have been oversold as a crossover pop act. Nelly says he's as street as he ever was.

He also said people are jealous of his success.

"At the end of the day, I am urban, so you can't run from that fact," Nelly said in an interview. "At the end of the day, it's another successful brother, stepping and breaking ground for the next brother to come along and do it...You do what works for you -- I think you'd be an idiot to not do what works for you. They don't want me to be smart about it? They wanna see another dumb brother not succeeding because he tried to do something that wasn't smart? That's what they say about us: We don't think first. Well, this brother thinking first. I plan on being here."

Nelly Addresses Steroid Rumors

Rapper Nelly took to his Twitter account to address rumors that have persisted over the years that the buff St. Louis native is on 'roids. He also tackled several other rumors swirling around him. According to the rapper, he's not on steroids, his former associate 'Slim' is not his manager, and he is not facing foreclosure of any kind.

"1st if u Believe slim was my manager then this is pointless anyway! I MADE SLIM! But this is the thanx I get 4given some1 from [the] crib a shot!" he tweeted. "2nd don't nothing go in this body but fish, chicken, turkey, protein, ROZAY, ciroc remy and Budweiser!! And MIKEnIKES, LONDONandSONS!!"

"3rd I [know] some hoping that 4closure statement is tru but I'm sorry. EPIC FAIL! Anytime any1 n STL wanna match deeds or pinkslips HOLLA!#FACTS," he added.

Nelly Working On New Album

Nelly is looking to bounce back quickly from the disappointment of his last album, 5.0. The St. Louis rapper is reportedly working on another album. 5.0 had noticeably poor sales, despite the single "Just A Dream" selling over 4 million copies.

“I’ll hopefully have a new album coming out at the end of this year. I’m going back in,” he told the Today Show. “The last album, 5.0, was phenomenal- ‘Just a Dream,” 4 million and things.”

The rapper is also releasing a workout video.
