Nas Album Release + 18 Years Since Illmatic * Jay-Z 16years Since Illmatic

Nas’ 10 th studio album Life Is Good is in stores today after his release party last night at Bagatelle in New York City. Fellow Hip-Hop artists in attendance celebrating Nas’ new album were Jay-Z, Swizz Beatz, Busta Rhymes, Jermaine Dupri, and music was provided by Q-Tip. Here a shot of Jay-Z and Nas celebrating during the release party. The above picture is great not only considering Nas and Jay’s past combustible history, but also for the fact they’ve entered uncharted territory for Hip-Hop as two emcees two decades deep that have maintained relevance and high skill levels. As they continue releasing albums, especially of the quality Nas just dropped, it’s becoming highly difficult to rank any of their peers or predecessors above them. Just consider for a second that Illmatic came out 18 years ago and Reasonable Doubt 16 years ago. Then reflect on how many trends and rappers have come and gone since then. The majority of our greatest emcees and groups are pretty much done as far as being at a high level by their third or fourth project. It’s been an amazing run for both and hopefully a signal that future older emcees will let their music mature with their age and life experiences.

Yandy On Missy Elliott

Reality star Yandy Smith shared her opinion on hip hop veterans Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes' careers. The two superstars, known for outside-the-box videos and musical ideas, seem to earn the "Love & Hip Hop" cast member's respect with their eclecticism.
Missy Elliott, in particular, won praises from Yandy.
"I think what's interesting about these artists and what makes them great is their ability to keep on reinventing themselves," Smith told SOHH. "Missy really hasn't been gone, she has manifested herself to Keyshia Cole, Jazmine Sullivan and Monica. All of those hit records that you hear, Missy has had a hand in them. She's been busy writing and producing and being very instrumental in a lot of the hits that we've heard throughout the past couple years."

50 Cent's Confession

50 Cent confessed that there are several classic hip hop singles he wishes he'd recorded. The superstar acknowledged that massive hits from Busta Rhymes and Black Rob are among the songs he would have liked to have recorded and released himself.
"When I was in the mixtape circuit, there was a lot going on. I was able to take things that I wish I made myself and do 'em over. Now it's not a lot of sh*t out there I would do over. I'm like, Nah, that ain't even it right there. You know what I'm saying? When Black Rob had "Whoa!," I wish that was my record. I wish "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See," by Busta Rhymes, was my record."
50 even gave props to a monster hit by one of his most heated rivals.
F*ckin' "Lean Back," I wish that was mine. You see what I'm saying?" Fif says. "And you know me and Fat Joe don't get along. You know what I'm saying? But to the culture, when you have those moments... And I'm sure they'll tell you they wish they had "In Da Club" and "P.I.M.P."

Busta Rhymes On Getting Older

Busta Rhymes discussed his getting older in the youth-dominated rap game. The rapper made his debut twenty years ago, fresh out of high school, as a member of Leaders of the New School. He launched his solo career in 1996 and has been going strong ever since. But he knows the way fans can view a rapper once he's nearing his forties.
"I've been blessed to be in this shape for a long time, but from young. I'm still a 38, 39 year old n*gga," Busta says. "I have a lot of peers that are older than me. At the end of the day, I can only speak for me, I'm just finding a new fresh powers source that's gonna make things a lot more difficult for niggas if they wanna stand next to me and compete. I take great pleasure and great pride in respectfully competing. I don't know it no other way; as long as everybody keeps it respectful."
He also touched on his partnership with Google Music.
"[Google Music,] it's displaying a new way of releasing music," he says. "It's gonna be a grand, festive moment for hip-hop overall. It's show people how greatly we can look forward to the growth of doing this shit the way it's supposed to be. I couldn't be more grateful for a better time in my career and evolution process at this point."

Busta Rhymes Is Unsigned?

Busta Rhymes Is Unsigned?
Busta Rhymes doesn't have a record deal. This according to his manager Chris Lighty, who spoke about the high visibility of several artists who don't technically have record deals. Busta was previously affiliated with Universal Motown, but is apparently no longer on the label that had been his recording home since 2008.
"Down the line, as we move with that relationship, you never know what can happen. We'll see how that works out," Lightly said, discussing unsigned artists on the airwaves. "Nothing's set it stone or promised. But if you look at Hot 97 historically, if you have a hot record in the streets bubbling...We have Uncle Murda right now, he has a record on Hot 97 and he isn't signed. Guess what? Busta Rhymes isn't signed right now either [Laughs]."

Carrie Keagan Talks Hip Hop
Carrie Keagan is the new host of "Big Morning Buzz Live" and she decided to open up about her favorite hip hop artists. In a recent interview with SOHH, Keagan revealed just who she would love to sit down with.
"I would love to hang out with 50 Cent because he's just so cool and I've interviewed him a few times," Keagan said. "I just really dig his vibe. I love Busta Rhymes. I'm sorry. [laughs] I saw him in that new Chris Brown ['Look At Me Now'] music video and I'm like, 'Where the h*ll have you been!?' I was so excited to see his face. And it would be cool to have him as that guy who just says things behind me all the time. And then there was a girl named Mystic a while back. I haven't kept track of her but she was one of my favorite rappers. One of my favorite female rappers. I thought her voice was amazing and I would love to spend some time with her. She had great lyrics."
"Ah, I wanted to go more old school though," Keagan added. "I think Nicki Minaj is cool as sh*t. I would love to party with her too. [laughs] For sure."

Busta Rhymes' Song For Peace

Busta Rhymes' Song For Peace
Busta Rhymes shared an interesting story regarding his massive 1997 hit "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See," and the night he realized how big a smash the song was. At a nightclub, the Roc-A-Fella and Terror Squad camps allegedly got into an altercation, and Busta's single allegedly played a role in diffusing the incident.
"We were at the Roxy, and Kid Capri was DJing. I came in there with one of my mans, and Kid Capri played the sh*t for the third time, for the fourth time, for the fifth time, for the sixth time, for the seventh time, for the eighth time. By the eleventh time straight, no other song in between," Busta told Elliott Wilson in an interview for Respect Magazine. "I damn-near started crying in the club, because I couldn’t believe that I’d done something that was so compelling that warranted that kind of love from the DJ. And the club was demanding that he keep playing it. Roc-a-fella and Terror Squad crossed paths in that spot that night, and you just started seeing bottles wildin.'"
"Capri stopped the music: 'Yo, y’all n*ggas chill the f**k out, man. Don’t f**k up the party,'" Busta recalled. "N*ggas still wildin’. He was like, 'I know what’s gonna stop y’all from beefing'—[hums the intro of 'Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See'] for the twelfth time. That song stopped the beef."
