Monica On Keeping Her Marriage A Secret

R&B singer Monica stopped by "The Wendy Williams Show" and discussed her marriage to NBA player Shannon Brown. Monica kept the marriage quiet for a while before sharing the news with her fans and she said she didn't want to make a spectacle out of anything.

"Actually, we did it Justice of the Peace style," Monica shared. "It wasn’t so much that it was a secret; we just didn’t make an announcement, which is the new way for everything."

"[My family] all knew; they helped us prepare because we had to bring the Justice of the Peace to our house," she added. "We promised; I am my mother’s first born; he is his mother’s first born and then our mothers are very close, so there was an unspoken “So when are we all celebrating?” type of thing going on. So we just decided that after the season they were fighting to get a 3-peat [we would get married because] we didn’t want to cause distractions during the season. That was really the real reason. I said, “Okay, we’ll make a date.” Shannon picked July 9th and that is when we did the actual ceremony."

The rumor mill is buzzing with suggestions that the former Miss Thang-turned-current-Mrs.-Shannon-Brown may have a bun in the oven. She kept her stomach covered as she celebrated her 31st birthday this weekend in Atlanta with family and friends.

She was also spotted out enjoying the Scream Tour with her sons; alongside Jermaine Dupri and his daughter, and T.I.'s wife Tiny.

Monica's Marital Bliss

R&B star Monica shared some of her domestic routine in a recent interview. The singer says that she is quite happy being a wife to NBA player Shannon Brown, and prides herself on being a 'traditional wife.' She shared that she loves cooking for her man.

"I cook for him. He can cook, but I don’t think he should have to. I’m a traditional wife in every since. I like the fact that he cleans his plate. That’s a southern thing. I’m from Georgia. When we grew up, our uncles finished off your plate and theirs, you know. I love the fact that he likes to talk to me while I cook. It’s not like I have these lonely hours where I’m in the kitchen. We talk while I’m cooking and he’ll ask for things a particular way. He’s a big fan of garlic and different seasonings so I had to learn to use the ones that he likes. I like it because it’s just another chance for us to communicate and to talk about what’s happened in our day. We talk about what practice was like or what my day was like."
