The Simmons sisters were already under intense scrutiny before they ever became reality show stars. The daughters of Rev. Run Simmons and the nieces of Russell Simmons couldn't come from more famous stock in hip hop circles, so they've always had to be aware of the pressures that come with having iconic familial ties. Vanessa and Angela opened up in a recent interview with Fearless magazine about just what the journey has been like.
"Oh no. My parents didn’t want me to be in entertainment," Vanessa admitted. "They wanted to make sure that it was something I really wanted to do. That’s why my dad was like, 'You want to be an actress? Why?' That was kind of their reaction. But growing up in the circumstance of having entertainment around, I think it was natural that I did do that."
"The world was viewing me at the age of 17," Angela added. "So you have to imagine from 17 to 23 you are going to grow up. It’s a matter of me becoming more of a woman, which is still a process that’s happening. I’ve grown in relationships and work. Everyday is a learning experience. I’ve changed since coming to LA. Health wise, I am more aware and really trying to get in touch with myself. I am learning to love myself first."
