Osama bin Laden, the world's most wanted terrorist, was killed in Pakistan as the result of a U.S. military operation, President Obama announced to the nation Sunday night.The historic revelation comes about four months before the 10th anniversary of the devastating Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, which were executed by the Al Qaeda network helmed by Bin Laden and prompted the start of a war on terror that has dominated U.S. foreign policy.
Bin Laden, 54, was a member of a wealthy Saudi family and has been on the FBI's Most Wanted Fugitives List since 1999.
Bin Laden broke with Saudi leaders over their beliefs regarding Israel. He was eventually denounced by his family and gave up citizenship.
Al Qaeda has taken responsibility for the bombings of U.S. embassies in 1998 in Tanzania and Kenya. More than 200 people were killed in the attacks.
Al Qaeda has also claimed responsibility for other attacks on other symbols of U.S. power around the globe. It has spawned local organizations in hot spots from Iraq to Afghanistan.
The announcement by Obama from the East Room of the White House came eight years to the day after President Bush announced the end of major combat operations in Iraq, the so-called “Mission Accomplished” speech from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.
Members of Congress were briefed on the news by Vice President Joe Biden throughout the weekend, according to a Senate aide.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, related the news to mourners at a memorial service for political consultant Kam Kuwata. Feinstein said Obama was announcing it on TV as she spoke. However, she announced the news well before Obama began to speak.

I feel like this is tragic. I don't care if you like or dislike Osama and I don't care if you like or dislike the US Military. On both sides family and friends mourn tons of deaths. It's tragic and un-godly.
Although this seems like victory for the us, it kinda scares me. Bin laden didnt work alone. he was the brains of the operation. so now we're left with the "do whatever, down for whateva" terrorists. But i love the fact that Obama did what Bush couldnt without wasting as much time, money, and lives. God i love my president!!!!!

Doesn't matter. I'm ex military and was in the middle east twice before 9-11. The US and other foreign governments have a lot of financial interests over there. Plus bin laden was just the face and voice of al quaida. His second in command is the real mastermind. The stuff is about to hit the fan. Much love to my fellow service members. JOB WELL DONE!!!!

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I am glad because he is finally dead, on the other, he was a vast source of al Qaida info that isn't there to be used anymore.
His rumor of him still alive gave the US all the info on where attacks were gonna be before hand and could then take the terrorists in, now we have a fractured al Qaida that will war within themselves to replace Osama but also have many random attacks around the world because they won't know how to target. At that point they target any nearby location that can have lots of casualties.
Those that think Osama did something better than Bush... well, he had him captured and saved more lives with his intel than killing him ever could have.
Finally got him and i happy that this job is done and the solder that died for us has not been forgottten and damnit the president did a good ass job of getting this job accomnplished and complete for all and he didnt waste no timein gettin ths done and thank you god this is fianlly over

Theres numerous "al-Qaeda-linked" individuals who have undergone training in one of its camps in Afghanistan, Iraq or Sudan, but not taken any pledge of loyalty as Osama did . It's sad that it took this long for ONE MAN to be found but let ONE MAN jump bail or get behind on child support payments the government can find you in a heartbeat! I am, however, thankful to all the men and women in the armed forces who have risked and lost their lives in the quest to find this ONE MAN! I would have liked for him to stand trial and explain his actions. True indeed, this is the beginning of another long road for this country but I believe that the USA can handle it!
Al Qaeda's leader is now dead which means that they have no leader and nothing but a point to prove. I feel a bit more uneasy now the Bin Laden is dead. We could possibly see an attack similar or worse to that of 9/11. I pray that it doesn't.

Y'all are forgetting that thousands of soldiers along with civilians have died in this war. What the hell did we really gain from this? Troops are still over there and now they will have to suffer/or even be killed due to this. I just lost my fiance over there and I feel no relief. And honestly I'm more scared now then I was yesterday. The real terrorist about to light our asses up like the fourth of July. I am for one glad we are done with him and can move on .. maybe.. with one last kick to his side would be nice.. but as for our "president" to stand there and like it was him who caught the guy is bs.. the only thing he ever did was cause heartache to what was a strong country..I am going to think positive and bring our men and women home so that the country we try to protect with our lives can once again be whole.. FYI.. the real credit for this awesome news needs to go to the soldiers that risked there lives to make it happen.. All my prayers go to the soldiers and their families and a big THANK YOU....
