Kelis Addresses Album Cover

Nas raised more than a few eyebrows when he revealed that the cover of his upcoming albumLife Is Good featured him sitting with the wedding dress of his ex-wife, R&B star Kelis, draped across his lap. Now, Kelis is offering her response to the controversial image.
"My feelings about it are not really relevant, but you know at the end of the day Nas is an artist," she told the NME. "And for whatever it's worth he's one of the greatest, and especially for what it is he does. So for me, I feel like especially for someone in hip-hop to kind of be genuine and honest, whatever the honesty is about, I think it's awesome. So my feelings about it aren't really necessarily valid, it's just the fact that as an artist I can respect that he wears his feelings on his sleeve."

Nas Hurt Over Abandoned Dress

Nas elaborated on the circumstances that led to his ex-wife Kelis abandoning her green wedding dress--the same dress he's posing with on the album cover for his upcoming albumLife Is Good. Nas says that he was deeply hurt by his former love discarding the dress she wore the day they tied the knot.
"Yes, it was the real dress. It was in the crib," he told Power 99. "I didn’t know what to do with it. I don’t think Kelis intentionally left the dress there. I think that was just one of the things that was left behind. I saw it, and it was like ‘wow’, and it’s still in the crib so…I’m not sure if she left it on purpose or what, but I thought it was a good one. I was like “ohh she stung me with that one.” I been through things [that] I thought only happens on TV."

Chrissy Lampkin Confirms New Show

Former "Love & Hip Hop" cast member Chrissy Lampkin has verified that she and her soon-to-be-husband, rapper Jim Jones, will be starring in a new reality show for VH1. Chrissy says she and her fiance have yet to come up with a title, but the show is most definitely a go.
"Jimmy and I have our own show now," she revealed in an interview. "There's definitely gonna be drama. We love each other but we don't always see eye to eye. We respect each other but just like any other relationship, it gets rocky."
"I really don't know [the title yet]," she added. "I really wanted 'Me and Mrs. Jones' but Kelis and Nas already used that."

Nas Opens Up About Kelis

Rapper Nas rarely talks about his failed marriage to pop/R&B superstar Kelis, but the hip hop legend opened up in this months' issue of Complex about their bitter divorce and how the split affected him.
"There was a point where we were trying to hold onto a relationship that was finished," Nas says. "She was pregnant and in the studio while we were recording Distant Relatives, and he would move when the music would come on. That was a great feeling for me, just to have that feeling of family. It ended around the time the record was being done."
"There were times when it didn’t bother me, and there were times when it bothered me a lot," he added. "There were times when I was thinking, ‘Damn. I had this sh*t all planned out, and now I’ve failed’. That was hard on me, because I don’t like to fail at anything. Accepting that I failed at this relationship—and it was public—messed me up. You ask yourself, ‘How could that person be so cold’? And I’m sure she felt the same way about me. It was ugly."

Nas On Divorcing Kelis

Rapper Nas opened up about his highly-publicized 2008 divorce from pop/R&B star Kelis. In an interview with RapFlix, the Queensbridge rhymer said that it was the first time he experienced what it was like to have tabloids intrude upon his personal life.
"Life is crazy. I [wound] up paying more money to baby mommas than what some of my rap brothers and sistren make," he said. "I've always been away from too much limelight and that right there put me in your... No one's exempt from people probing into your life once you get into the game. So it put a lot of my business out there, man. It was like, people weren't thinking I was making that kind of money, and now they knew."
"I was always low key with it in a lot of ways. It was hard with people being all in your business, and it was just ugly. Divorce can be crazy," he continued.
He also gave a little advice to couples. "Man, if you're happy... Love is a beast, man. Hold on," he shared. "Be prepared for any way it may go, and be honest."

Kelis On 'Artists' Vs. 'Pop Stars

Kelis broke down her definitions of what it means to be an 'artist' vs. what it means to be a 'pop star.'
“To me the best artists are the people we believe, and so I think those are not the pop stars," she says. "Those are usually the ones that, you know, are not always perfect. That’s the difference between being a pop star and being an artist. I think the word artist — I say this all the time — gets thrown around so lightly. It’s like the word love. You can’t put the two [together], they’re not the same. I think neither one is right or wrong, but I want to be in a group of believers. I want people to believe me because that’s what art’s about. It’s about someone finding a connection in who you are. Seeing [themselves] in it. Or wanting to see [themselves] in it.”
“Honestly my advice to new artists is always, ‘If you can do something else, you should,’" Kelis added. "Because I think that what makes artists great is that they literally can’t do anything else. You think about all the people that you’ve loved in the past or all the artists or musicians or painters or whatever. They do it because if you don’t get it out, it becomes something negative, it becomes something too much, it’s overwhelming. I think if you’re wanting to be an artist because you want to be…you probably shouldn’t do it. You should do something else. It’s easier.”

Nas Gushes Over His Kids

Nas Gushes Over His Kids
Nas is one proud papa. The Queensbridge lyricist recently opened up about his love for his little ones. And though his legal battles with his ex-wife, pop star Kelis, are well-documented, the rapper still beams when discussing their son and his older daughter.
"My kids are my everything," he said. "I got the best kids in the whole world. My daughter is at the age where she can call me up and tell me what she thinks about Beyonce's new video and what she thinks about Wiz Khalifa and we can talk about it all. My son is walking and talking and he's no joke. I got the best kids in the world. I walk around everyday very blessed."
