Mac Miller Lands Big Guests On Remix
![]() |
Mac Miller has announced that he's remixing his song "Of the Soul," and he has a couple of hip hop legends appearing on the new track. Raekwon and Posdnous of De La Soul will be taking part in the "Of the Soul" remix. It should be noted that the song's title is a literal spin on the name 'De La Soul.' "I'm doing a remix [of 'Of the Soul'] - a real ill remix with two crazy people," he announced. "I just want to announce it just so people get ready and get hyped, but it's me, Posdnous of De La Soul and Raekwon. I'm just waiting on Raekwon to send me his verse, and it's gonna be nuts. But just Posdnous, he was the inspiration for the record - it's 'Of the Soul,' that's the translation of De La Soul - and so I hit him and said, 'You gotta rap on this with me, man.' It was actually Mick Boogie's idea, he hit me and said, 'You should get De La on the song.'" . |

Mac Miller To Work With Cam'ron
![]() |
Rapper Mac Miller revealed that he and Harlem rhymer Cam'ron are planning on working on a full project together--which comes on the heels of the pair's collaborative track "Dig That." Miller said that he and Cam are still piecing ideas together and they've already recorded three or four songs. “Me and Cam are actually talking about doing a project together,” Mac said. “We don’t know when we’re gonna do it. We have three or four songs recorded already. We’re working on more at this point. We’re two funny guys. We cut up a lot in the studio, and have a good time and make some dope music. I think the cool thing is that it’s an unexpected collaboration that actually turned out dope. We wanna do some soulful hip hop sh*t, while also making some hard sh*t and some fun music. [We’re] making sure that we do it in a way that’s different than other people who have done projects together. It’s still in the brainstorming stage, but we definitely have some dope records done. He’s got a lot of knowledge in that he’s schooling me on.” |

Looking Back: The 2011 Hip Hop 100
![]() |
2011 was an eventful year for hip hop. The emergence of new superstars, the affirmation of established legends and their greatness and the sad, untimely deaths of a pair of 90s hip hop legends all gave resonance to the past year. HipHopBlog.com once again decided to list the 100 individuals that sat at the top of hip hop's cache in 2011, and we've included a diverse roster of artists, executives, entrepreneurs and personalities. There were several new faces that changed the 2011 hip hop landscape. Upstarts like the West Coast collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All and Pittsburgh stoner-rap star Wiz Khalifa became household names, while indie maverick Mac Miller reshaped the way a new artist can promote themselves and their art. Several of hip hop's most 'thoughtful' artists found themselves embroiled in controversy this year; with Lupe Fiasco, Common and the Roots all sitting at the center of political firestorms and proving why they are among hip hop's best-suited for such debates. At the very top of hip hop music and culture, moguls like Diddy and Jay-Z continued to display a golden touch in 2011. Both men were among the year's top earners, and both men had much success throughout the year--both as artists (Diddy's Dirty Money project, Jay-Z's uber-successful Watch the Throne) campaign, and as executives with Bad Boy Records and Roc Nation, respectively. Hip hop is an ever-evolving artform and a thriving culture. The Hip Hop 100 celebrates both sides of the coin and reminds fans and artists that there are a myriad of ways to make your presence felt in the game. These are the people that have mastered all of them. |

Mac Miller Links With Pharrell
![]() |
Mac Miller shared his reaction to the news that his single "Donald Trump" has gone gold. The Pittsburgh indie rapper said that the fact that his single moved 500,000 in sales is an honor and a source of pride, but also admitted that he views the accomplishment as only one on a long road to superstardom. "It's dope, man - a gold record, that's just an accomplishment," he explained. "I just happy that [the record] was able to go that far, and I'm just looking to build on that and keep growing, and hopefully have more gold records, maybe some platinum ones…it's definitely crazy to see where I was at a year ago and see where I am now, but at the same time, this is what I've dedicated my life to. I wouldn't settle for anything less, [and] I'm not even settling for this now…at the end of the day, this is nothing. I'm just working on building for the next step and to keep growing and take things to the next level." Mac also shared that he has been working with superproducer Pharrell Williams. "I did like, two crazy jams with Pharrell," he revealed. "It was dope. He's real good peoples, and I just came in there and we were just vibing. I like making songs from scratch with people. I'm not a big 'send me a beat type guy.' We came up with some real cool sh*t, and we did two joints…he raps on one, and on there other he just did the beat." |

Nipsey Hussle On Mac Miller
![]() |
Nipsey Hussle voiced his support for indie rapper Mac Miller in a recent interview. Nipsey said that he respects Miller's below-the-radar hustle, and he was surprised to see how much Mac's career has blossomed without the help of a major. "You know Mac Miller--he a cool cat and I had been conscious of what he was doing from a distance," Nipsey said. "But I was walking through the mall or something or the airport one day and I see a Billboard [magazine] [...] I see who's on the cover of the Billboard and it was Mac Miller, and me knowing him as being independent and not having a huge radio presence, that was big to me." "When I saw that I twipic'd it and I put it on Twitter," Nipsey explained. "I just gave him his props on that and was just like 'That's big.' You know, it's a sign of the times that we living in and you know he hollered back. ... It was you know just kicking it and played some music and all that and was just talking about the industry and I was just telling him how I really respect what he's doing and it's motivation for an artist like myself that's doing it independent right now to see somebody even before he put out a No. 1 album he was... so I just wanted to give him his props on that... so he's cool and we hit it off and knocked a couple records out." |

Mac Miller Is Staying Indie
![]() |
Mac Miller doesn't see the benefits of signing with a major label. The indie star was featured on Forbes "30 Under 30" list, and shared that he's happy without being under the thumb of a powerhouse. “So my whole thing is, I’m more into keeping independent because I’m more into working with people who I know very well,” he said. “But if I reach a point where there’s things I can’t do, which we haven’t reached that point yet, but if I ever reach a point where there’s something I can’t do and I need some help with a major, who knows. I’m not anti-major, like 'I hate the majors.' I’m not that type of person.” He also acknowledged that there will be critics who will compare him to his contemporaries for obvious reasons. “People are going to call me Eminem maybe cause I’m white, or Wiz ‘cause I’m from Pittsburgh and that’s my friend. But I don’t really worry about comparisons, because when it’s all said and done, there will be no more comparisons," he added. "I’m a 19-year-old kid and fairly new at this.” |

Mac Miller Grateful For His Career
![]() |
Mac Miller is pausing to bask in the glow of success. The rapper reflected on how far he's come since beginning his journey towards stardom. He's still a newcomer, but Mac isn't losing sight of how much ground he's covered in a short amount of time. "It's just a journey," Mac says. "We started out last year driving eight hours to Indiana in a Volvo station wagon packed up with all dudes in there, just to perform for some people who didn't know who I was. And to see that grow to, I have two buses. And I'm independent... Went in my pocket, pulled out 200 stacks and got two buses." |

Mac Miller Collaborating With Andre 3000?
![]() |
Rapper Mac Miller has become the latest artist to profess his admiration for Outkast's reclusive Andre 3000. Over the past several years, seemingly everyone in music has been pining over the musician's absence (a few guest appearances notwithstanding), and several artists have openly stated that they would love to work with Three Stacks.
Mac Miller has joined that list.
“Definitely Andre 3000. That’s one of my favorite rappers ever. I don’t know, if I could work with him it would be crazy,” said Miller when asked who he’d like to work with. “I don’t really wanna put too much into who I work with because if people don’t wanna work with me or believe in what I’m doing then it’s cool…I mean I already have some tracks in with some legends in the game so I’ve already done things that I never believed I would do before.”

Donald Trump Praises Mac Miller

Former presidential also-ran Donald Trump is singing the praises of rapper Mac Miller. Miller's song "Donald Trump" has passed the 20 million views mark on YouTube, and "The Donald" has nothing but positive things to say about the emcee.
“A lot of people are calling me about the Mac Miller rap song," Trump says. "Now, it’s named ‘Donald Trump.’ Maybe you should pay me a lot of money, but it just did over 20 million people, tuning into Mac Miller. So in one way, I’m proud of him. I haven’t actually seen the language, it’s a little hard to understand on the song itself. Probably, it’s not the cleanest language you’ve ever heard, but this kid is the new Eminem."
"Everybody says he’s fantastic," Trump added. "Let’s see what it is. But the ‘Donald Trump’ song just hit over 20 million, that’s not so bad. I’m very proud of him.”
