New Music: 2 Chainz Ft. Kanye West – Birthday Song

Frank Ocean Reveals Letter's Origins

Frank Ocean spoke at-length about his coming out letter and revealed that it had been written back in December of 2011 to be released alongside his album sleeve. He planned to announce his bisexuality via that method to address any potential speculation that the songs onchannel ORANGE were about men.
"I knew that I was writing in a way that people would ask questions," he said. "I knew that my star was rising, and I knew that if I waited I would always have somebody that I respected be able to encourage me to wait longer, to not say it till who-knows-when."
"People are just afraid of things too much ... Sure, evil exists, extremism exists," he added. "Somebody could commit a hate crime and hurt me. But they could do the same just because I'm black. They could do the same just because I'm American."

Nas Expected To Land At #1

Rapper Nas' new album, Life Is Good, is being projected to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The album would give Nas his sixth number one album. That puts the Queens-born legend in company that includes Eminem and Jay-Z.
1996's It Was Written, 1997's The Firm with Foxy Brown, AZ, and Nature, 1999's I Am, 2007's Hip Hop Is Dead and 2008's "Untitled" all hit number one on the charts.
Life Is Good could possibly be the only title that will sell over 100,000 this week, Billboard reports.

Nas Album Release + 18 Years Since Illmatic * Jay-Z 16years Since Illmatic

Nas’ 10 th studio album Life Is Good is in stores today after his release party last night at Bagatelle in New York City. Fellow Hip-Hop artists in attendance celebrating Nas’ new album were Jay-Z, Swizz Beatz, Busta Rhymes, Jermaine Dupri, and music was provided by Q-Tip. Here a shot of Jay-Z and Nas celebrating during the release party. The above picture is great not only considering Nas and Jay’s past combustible history, but also for the fact they’ve entered uncharted territory for Hip-Hop as two emcees two decades deep that have maintained relevance and high skill levels. As they continue releasing albums, especially of the quality Nas just dropped, it’s becoming highly difficult to rank any of their peers or predecessors above them. Just consider for a second that Illmatic came out 18 years ago and Reasonable Doubt 16 years ago. Then reflect on how many trends and rappers have come and gone since then. The majority of our greatest emcees and groups are pretty much done as far as being at a high level by their third or fourth project. It’s been an amazing run for both and hopefully a signal that future older emcees will let their music mature with their age and life experiences.

Frank Ocean Confirms Target Ban

Frank Ocean's debut albumChannel Orange is not being sold in Target stores due to Def Jam's making the album available early via iTunes. The reasoning was confirmed despite the singer's manager initially insinuating that the company banned the album because of Ocean's coming out as a bisexual last week.
"Target has refused to carry Frank's album because of iTunes exclusive," the singer's manager, Christian Clancy, wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted. "Interesting since they also donate to non-equal rights organizations."
Nonetheless, Ocean confirmed that the album won't be sold at Target.
"Album won't be available at target," he tweeted. "Blame it on a generational gap. best buy on deck though."

Fabolous Offers "Loso's Way 2" Update

Fabolous has been prepping hisLoso's Way 2 album for what seems like an eternity, and the New York rhymer offered up a reason for the project's delays. While stating that the album should be dropping late this year, Fab made it clear that this album is a clear step forward for him.
"I gave that music just to keep the people fed. At some point they get starved, like, we need some music, so I gave them the ['There Is No Competition 3'], and since then I've been working on the album," Fab said.
"The whole process in between that, I've just been working on the album and getting it ready. The release should be top of fall," he continued. "This one is really growth and evolution. I think people know what I do -- they know I've been in the game for a minute, but you gotta continuously show that growth and show that you're bringing something. It's the same thing, it's the same steps over and over again, but you gotta make it look new."

Ma$e's Advice To 2 Chainz

2 Chainz gushed about a phone call from hip hop veteran Ma$e and the advice the former Bad Boy Records star gave 2 Chainz about his burgeoning hip hop career. Ma$e reportedly passed on some words that he himself and learned from the late Notorious B.I.G.
"A legend hit me the other day," Chainz said in an interview with radio host Big Boy. "This my first time putting it in an interview. But Ma$e hit me the other day and told me he was a fan of my music, dog. And then he told me something that Biggie said and I felt like Biggie told it to me. ... Biggie told Ma$e at the time they was popping, whatever, he said, 'Get it while you can and can it when you get it.' And I was like, it felt like Biggie had told me. That phone call just meant so much. Stuff like that lets me know I'm covering ground."

2 Chainz To Serve As A&R For "Ludaversal"

Ludacris' relationship with several former members of his Disturbing Tha Peace camp has soured, but he and 2 Chainz appear to still have a great working camaraderie. 2 Chainz revealed in a recent interview that he will be serving as A&R on Luda's upcoming album Ludaversal.
"My job is to give him beats from my perspective, from where I come from," 2 Chainz explained. "I have a long history of club shows and rocking out and he's a more venue artist. So I'm just trying to give him some looks from my eyes and perspective."
"I'm just submitting beats from my eyes, different from what Luda usually does, that's why he hired me," he said. "Me and Luda are definitely two different artists. So, it will be different. I do a lot of clubs. So I'm just submitting 2 Chainz s***. Different things I think he would need or doesn't f*** with."

2 Chainz Inspired By Lil Wayne

2 Chainz first came to national attention as a member of Playaz Circle, who had their first major hit with the Lil Wayne-assisted "Duffle Bag Boy." In a recent interview with AlLindstrom, 2 Chainz explained just how much knowing Weezy helped keep him inspired.
"The thing behind me and Wayne was that he always believed in me as a musician, as well as being a cool dude," said 2 Chainz. "And everybody thought he was the illest n***a in the world. So that's where my confidence kinda started. Just derived from him. It's like, 'everybody f*cks with you, and you f*ck with me!' So that's where our relationship came in."
"He used to say encouraging things that I'm sure another rapper, [if] that didn't get that, they'd start figuring something else out," he added. "Me even being around him, seeing what they have, seeing the things you can get from puttin' words together, it kinda kept me inspired."
