Big Sean Discusses G.O.O.D.'s Legacy

G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean spoke to MTV about the label he calls home and the aspirations he feels Kanye West and Co. can rise to with all of the talent on their roster. With West, Sean, Pusha T, Q-Tip, Common and others, Big Sean feels that G.O.O.D. could be comparable to hip hop's most famed labels of the past.
"When we rocked Made in America as a G.O.O.D. Music team, it just reminded how I used to look at Bad Boy and how they had big productions and how I used to look at Death Row or Roc-A-Fella," explained Sean.
"It's just really tight to be a part of something," added Big Sean. "It's really tight to be a part of a family, especially sharing a stage with the heroes you looked up to from Jay to 'Ye, Common, all that."
The highly-anticipated G.O.O.D. Music compilation, Cruel Summer, will be released next week.

Big Sean Dismissed His 1st Album

Big Sean is prepping his sophomore album, but he spoke to HipHopWired about his 2011 debut project, Finally Famous, and revealed that he was never satisfied with the album. He voiced his disappointment, but added that he's used the experience to inform his approach the second time around.
"I ain't really like it that much," said Sean in the interview. "On the first album I wasn't really in love with every single one. I just think it was a timing thing, I just started getting into the groove I was starting to feel comfortable right when it was due. Really when it was past due, and it kind of f**ked me up.”
"You live and you learn and I'm glad it went like that. I'm glad my first album was the way it was and I'm glad the second album is the way it is shaping up to be," he said. "I think my first album had a lot of radio songs on it and that is an important part of things and it is a necessity you have to establish. At least radio knows me now as a presence and now they'd be willing to take more chances on me and that's what this second album is. It's all about taking chances. [The second album's] a little bit more personal and making some new sh*t for the radio instead of trying to go for something else."

Kid Cudi Explains G.O.O.D. Bond

Kid Cudi has always been one for isolation. The rapper famously crowned himself "Mr. Solo Dolo," but he recently opened up about his links to the G.O.O.D. Music family and why he feels more solidarity with his crew than ever.
"It's the only time where I feel like I'm around people that understand me," he told Complex. "I felt like an orphan before then. It's good for me, man. I don't really click well with people. I don't know what it is, but everybody in this family, I click with. From 2 Chainz to Big Sean to Q-Tip. I've been seeing Q-Tip since I've started in this business and he's always had my back. You can look online and check. I'm just really happy that everybody embraced me and they don't think I'm too much of a nut job. When you work with your family, it's love behind every record and you want everybody to win. I love hearing Pusha rap. I love hearing his raps, man. It will never get old. I've told him that. And that's the exciting thing. I'm around people that I'm a fan of, that I grew up on and sh*t, and I can watch them create and do what they do and I can contribute and be a part of history. It's wild."

Big Sean Dismisses Beef

Big Sean wants no parts of any Young Money/G.O.O.D. Music beef. Despite the fact that the two crews are engaged in a high profile war of words (mostly via Twitter.) Sean says that this issue is something that he has nothing to do with it.
"I think beef is weak. Crack is wack. I don't encourage that," Sean said in an interview. "Yeah, I'm cool with Pusha T, I'm cool with everybody. The thing is, people gotta understand that we got no point in beefing. We got families to take care of, we got moms to take care of. I ain't about to be over here arguing with nobody. We all on the same team. We all young men, black men, black, white, it doesn't matter, but just entrepreneurs trying to get it."

Kanye West premiered his short film Cruel Summer at the Cannes Film Festival in France and several details surrounding the somewhat mysterious project were shared online. Logan Hill of GQ tweeted some information regarding the film's plot.
“Cruel Summer is the story of a Lamborghini car thief who falls for a beautiful blind Arabic girl who’s father will let them……marry if he can help her see," Hill tweeted. "So he (Kid Cudi) does using strings that lead her around palace to play music. @kanyewest talke synesthesia.”
“[Kanye] says it work in progress but it’s wildly stylish, huge booming soundtrack,” Hill continued. “Vanessa Beecroft production design. immersive fun. @kanyewest needed 20 camels, 100 extras and I’m guessing 20 Lambos. @kanyewest film features fashion he designed and pieces by local Arabic designers, shot in 4 days, 3 months start to almost-finish.”

Big Sean Defends the Kardashians

Rapper Big Sean defended the always-controversial Kardashian clan in a recent interview with Hot 97. The G.O.O.D. Music rapper says that, despite their polarizing reputation, the Kim, Khloe and Co. are a lot cooler than the public may think.
"I was trying to see if there were any more of them," Sean joked. "All of them are nice, too. None of them are a**holes. None of them have egos. Everybody cool, man. It's just like, I think they're people who really took advantage of their situation, of their popularity and made it into an empire. They're rich, they're role models, they do positive things, they're living their life. You gotta give big ups to them for that. Straight up."

Big Sean Downplays Kanye/Young Chop Issues

Producer Young Chop didn't approve of Kanye West's remix of the Chop-produced Chief Keef track "I Don't Like," but G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean says that the whole thing is most likely just confusion. Chop was critical of Yeezy, and Sean believes that the two just needed to communicate a little better.
"I just think it was a misunderstanding. You know how it goes. It’s all about communication sometimes. I think it was just a lack of communication between the two," he told Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg of Hot 97. "But it was a remix. I don’t know how official they were taking it, I don’t known if it was going on iTunes. It was just something that we were doing."
"I can’t say he wrong, I can’t say he right. It’s all opinionated. It’s not about what’s right or wrong or what’s ethical," he continued. "He could speak his mind, he got that choice himself. I didn’t personally think he should have made that big of a deal. I think it could have been handled inside, but if that’s what he wants to do, that’s what he wants to do. I can’t blame him."

Big Sean's Phone Call From Ma$e

As hip hop veteran Ma$e preps what looks to be his third attempt at a musical comeback, G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean revealed that the former Bad Boy star gave him a call unexpectedly and the two could possibly be collaborating in the very near future.
"Mase just hit me up, too," Sean told Hot 97's Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg. "We got something in the works."
"He surprised me, he called me just out of nowhere. He was like, 'What's up, this Mase -- I'm really digging your style. We need to work on something,'" he added. "I'm like, 'What the f*ck?' [laughs] Nah, but, that's somebody I came up listening to, that whole Bad Boy era -- we got something in the works for him, a lot of people."

Kanye Is Gassing Up Big Sean?

Kanye West definitely supports hip hop's younger generation, and when it comes to his own G.O.O.D. Music camp, Yeezy may be one of the best motivational speakers in music. During a recent interview, rapper Big Sean shared a few details about his upcoming album and also revealed what Yeezy has told the young rhymer about his career ambitions.
"My album's coming this summer. I can probably say at the latest at the end of August. I got Tyga on there. I got, of course, 'Ye on there," he revealed.
Sean shared that Kanye has tremendous faith in his talents. "I'm here kickin' with 'Ye," Sean recalled, "and 'Ye tellin' me I'm gonna be the best rapper of all time.".

"I would love to do something with Kanye West," Ne-Yo said. "I love his artistry, I love his originality, I love the fact he takes time to make sure something is as good as it can possibly be. I love that about him. We've had a couple opportunities but with my schedule [and his], it just hasn't come into fruition yet. I'm a huge fan of Drake. I love how he's kind of carving out his own niche in this thing. I would love to do something with him."
Ne-Yo also revealed what other hip hop figures he was currently into.
"Big fan of Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj," he shared. "Big Sean is making some noise right now, I'm a fan of what he does."
