Peter Rosenberg Replies To Lil Wayne

Radio personality Peter Rosenberg addressed Lil Wayne's statements regarding Hot 97's Summer Jam and Rosenberg's criticisms of Nicki Minaj. Earlier this week, Wayne explained his decision to have YMCMB's Minaj cancel her performance at Summer Jam as his reaction to Rosenberg's 'disrespect' of Minaj as a woman and as an artist. But Rosenberg scoffed at Wayne's reasoning that 'women should be respected at all times,' and dismissed what he felt was hypocrisy on Wayne's part.

"Lil Wayne thinks that I don't show respect for women," said Rosenberg said live on the air. "Wayne is right about something--Women are mothers, are sisters, are daughters. But I have a question. Is me giving my opinion that one song is wack, is that showing a lack of respect for women? ... I don't know if Weezy F. should be giving me lessons on respect for women. Weezy F.--the F doesn't stand for feminist, alright. ... Clearly the logical thing is let's get the word of respect for women from the woman at the center of it all...clearly Nicki Minaj, she understands respect for women. Instead of talking to everyone else about Hot 97, how about the good people at Young Money just come on down and come see us and talk to us?"

Kendrick Lamar Defends Nicki Minaj?

Everyone in hip hop is weighing on Nicki Minaj, Hot 97, Peter Rosenberg and the ongoing controversy surrounding Minaj's cancelling her performance at the major hip hop festival Summer Jam. Rosenberg, of Hot 97, blasted Minaj for her pop music prior to her scheduled appearance. During his rant, Rosenberg made sure to give props to 'real hip hop' like Kendrick Lamar. Speaking about the incident, Lamar told Power 105.1?s The Breakfast Club that he didn't know what was happening before he took the stage.

"Man, I was backstage I didn't even know that, that was going on onstage," he revealed. He also added that he completely understood why Nicki was offended.

"I would be hot, she got all the right reasons to be [upset] and do all that she did," he said, before adding, "I'd still perform though."

Rosenberg, Angie Martinez Address Controversy

Hot 97 DJs Angie Martinez and Peter Rosenberg both spoke at-length about the ongoing controversy surrounding Nicki Minaj pulling out of her set at this year's Summer Jam following Rosenberg's derogatory comments aimed at her.

Martinez says that she agreed with fellow Hot 97 personality Funkmaster Flex, who said that all sides are out of order in the incident.

"When [Flex] said that last night, I was like, 'And good night!' Grand opening, grand closing," she joked. "At some point, somebody could've stopped this. Behind the scenes, things happen all the time - it's the truth. Labels argue with the station, we argue with the artists, we kiss, we make up. We all are just trying to do our jobs…and provide for the listeners, the artists are trying to make music - we're trying to work together. Sometimes, we have disagreements. Most of the time, they get resolved; this did not get resolved. It happened in the middle of Summer Jam when Ebro is dealing with a hundred artists [and] a million backstage passes."

"I'm sure Nicki felt [disrespected] about [what Rosenberg said]…[Rosenberg] probably didn't realize it was going to be such a big deal, I think he was just in the zone," she continued. "In my personal opinion, maybe not the best time to have said that when she's coming to the building…but I still think they should have performed. It wasn't that serious, and honestly, they probably would've resolved it if everybody had just calmed down."

For his part, Rosenberg wasn't apologetic or contrite or even remorseful regarding his part in the entire debacle. He called out Minaj's boyfriend/sideman Safaree for statements he made on Twitter.

"Nicki's boyfriend went on Twitter and said he was gonna punch me in the face because I don't like a pop dance song that his girlfriend made," Rosenberg said on the air. "Word homie? That's your favorite song? Is that your favorite song? A girly a** dance pop song?," Rosenberg said. "I'll tell you what Nicki's boyfriend, you want to punch me in the face because I don't like pop dance songs? Please go right ahead. Yeah, and make that check payable to Peter E. Rosenberg. I got you! I got you! [You gonna sue?] Absolutely!"

Nicki Minaj Calls In To Hot97 To Address Summer Jam

After pulling out of her appearance at Sunday’s Summer Jam, Nicki Minaj phoned into Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97 to address her absence. She explained what led to the decision, her reaction to Peter Rosenberg’s diss, and the lesson she learned from Lil Wayne, who made the executive decision to yank YMCMB from the lineup. She also fired back at Flex for belittling her album sales, reciting exact figures.

“When you disrespect Nicki Minaj, you’re disrespecting my fans,” said Nicki, who plans to make it up to her Barbz by playing a free show in New York City.

Young Money vs. Summer Jam

Young Money pulled out of last night's Hot 97 Summer Jam concert abruptly after Nicki Minaj was dissed onstage by Hot 97 personality Peter Rosenberg. Lil Wayne himself decreed that no one from his label would take part in the event.

"Young Money ain't doing summer jam," Weezy tweeted.

Rosenberg has been a vocal critic of Nicki Minaj, going so far as to call the rapper a sellout for releasing more dance pop-oriented music.

"I go above and beyond for my fans. But won't ever go against wayne's word. What he says, goes," Nicki tweeted. "Had a HELL of a f***ing lineup. But we won't b disrespected."

Big Sean's Phone Call From Ma$e

As hip hop veteran Ma$e preps what looks to be his third attempt at a musical comeback, G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean revealed that the former Bad Boy star gave him a call unexpectedly and the two could possibly be collaborating in the very near future.

"Mase just hit me up, too," Sean told Hot 97's Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg. "We got something in the works."

"He surprised me, he called me just out of nowhere. He was like, 'What's up, this Mase -- I'm really digging your style. We need to work on something,'" he added. "I'm like, 'What the f*ck?' [laughs] Nah, but, that's somebody I came up listening to, that whole Bad Boy era -- we got something in the works for him, a lot of people."

Peter Rosenberg On Justin Beiber:

Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg explained his decision to have pop star Justin Bieber come to the studio and kick a freestyle over the instrumental to Gang Starr's classic single "Dwyck." The radio host says that the Beebs rhyming over a track like that could expose millions of people to hip hop that they've never heard.

"It'll probably be heard by millions of people. And it's labeled online--I intentionally labelled it 'Dwyck'," Rosenberg said, referring to the freestyle. "I wanted it to be out there and people to go, 'What's Dwyck?' To me, amidst all the people that would be like, 'Why'd you do that?' Ultimately, that's a really dope thing to do. I think that's a win for hip-hop. Justin Bieber is not gonna be the problem with hip-hop. Justin Bieber rhyming on a real hip-hop beat only exposes people to real hip-hop. That's just a good thing. Even if 1% of his fans look it up. Why not? I haven't talked to Premo yet, but I think Premo will think it's cool. I think everyone will think it's cool."

T.I. & Peter Rosenberg Make Amends

Rapper T.I. and Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg aired out their differences. Tip previously took exception to Rosenberg's comments following the rapper's release from prison. Rosenberg suggested that T.I. was spending too much time partying; Tip paid a visit to Ciipha Sounds and Rosenberg's show.

"That's my town, and the awards are in my town," he said. "My return is upon us, so why would I not go out there? Why would I not do what I do? Of course I've got other obligations that supersede the awards, that supersede... Would it be better for me to just let somebody from somewhere else come? [...] That means my presence is needed. In my absence, my city has been somewhat absent as well. So this is the return of me and my town. Prior to that, this is my job, this is what I do. Going to parties and doing that, that's part of what I do. I picked up paper at all them parties. And I've been gone for a while, so you don't want me to get my money?"

"If I choose to be one who lives his life in fear of what could happen instead of preparing myself for what I know may happen, I'm not going to be the T.I. that everyone's grown to love," he continued.
