Looks From Kanye West’s Spring/Summer 2012 Womenswear Collection
As we all know, the rapper turned fashion designer, Kanye West, debuted his Spring/Summer 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection to the world. The runway pieces drew inspiration from many top designers, and featured leather and fur fabrics. After the show, Kanye was questioned about his collection, here are some of his quotes:
“I had a lot of ideas about colors and shapes I wanted to express, I’m really happy where I ended up.”
“The biggest conversation I had was about the whole idea of a celebrity-designer or a rapper-designer, that was the biggest hurdle when you are trying to get people to work with you.” Check out Kanye’s full S/S 2012 Collection below.

iNK Get Swanky With Cynthia Mejias On Fashion
Hello Ms Mejias i hope all is well.
Hi. I'm doing great! The weather is finally beautiful in New York. That means time to pull out the sandals!
How your day going so far?
First and foremost I would like to say that God and my family are my life. Fashion is not.
I see that fashion is your life. How did you become so focus and lock in to fashion?
Now I became focused and locked into fashion when I was 16 years old. But going back, in 5th grade I remember being super obsessed with a pair of purple jean shorts with leather pockets and in Middle School I absolutely loved my jelly heels. All throughout High School I would cut up my tops and jeans to make different outfits and experimented a lot with the arts & crafts store lol. But yeah, when I was 16 I put my first photo shoot together for what I thought would be my "model portfolio" haha. I cut out pages from several fashion magazines and used them as guides for poses as well as outfits. I laid out everything in my room the day of and got to work. Looking at the photos now, I simple shake my head. I tried. But ever since that day I have been fixated on fashion.
Where are you from and attend school at?
I was born and raised in Holyoke, MA but my parents are from Puerto Rico.
Did you go to a fashion school?
I did not go to a fashion school. I went to Lasell College, a private school in Newton, MA (right outside of Boston) to originally study Fashion Design but then later changed to Information Technology. I always considered myself to be a cool nerd. Loved technology and games just as much as fashion. But things went real sour my 2nd year and I roughed it out until I eventually just dropped out.
Where did you get your "Swank" from? Wait i know it's Swanky, but can i say swank?
You can call me Swank lol Some people call me Swank or Swankster, but it did begin with Swanky. It was actually given to me by a really cool guy, Dorian Missick. He always called me Swanky and it stuck. I started using Swanky Cyn instead of Caviar Cyn on Myspace, Facebook, and twitter and without ever asking anyone to call me that or introducing myself as that it picked up. It fit, I fell in love with it, and so I ran with it.
It seems like shoes are your main focus. What are your top 5 shoe designers?
My top 5 shoe designers are Gianmarco Lorenzi, YSL, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, and Gucci.
What's the importance in having on a Swanky shoe?
It's important to have a Swanky shoe because it can make you or break you. It can either ruin a great outfit or take a so-so ensemble a step up. One single swanky pair of shoes can boost your confidence and create several new outfit opportunities. Also, men are getting hip to footwear and they can see an attractive girl with awful shoes and completely pass on her.
How much power is it to have a shoe that completes your outfit you as a whole?
It's so much power in a shoe now more than ever. But not any kind of power--STAYING power, that is if you take good care of them. Bags had their time, and right now it's all about the shoe. Like I said before, a shoe can either ruin a great outfit or take a so-so ensemble a step up. It brings the whole look together and gives you that swanky factor. And aside from that it helps your posture, therefore walking with confidence and giving off an energy that everyone will be attracted to.
Fancy, posh, trendy, glamorous...Swanky. Like every color Giuseppes, your guilty pleasure is me

Kanye Isn't In Fashion School

A spokesperson for Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design has stepped forward to refute rumors that Kanye West was enrolling in the school. Reports began circulating online that Yeezy was planning on studying fashion at one of the most prestigious fashion schools in the world. Kanye was reported as having flown to London to meet the head of the school's fashion program.
"Kanye West is not enrolling in [the] MA Fashion [program] at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design," Jo Ortmans, press officer for Central Saint Martins said via e-mail. "He visited the college last week on unrelated matters."

KANYE WEST FASHION SCHOOL DROPOUT?
The UK's Sun newspaper is reporting that Kanye West is attempting to make the grade at London's prestigious Central Saint Martins College. The launching pad for the likes of Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen, Kanye is said to have applied for a Masters degree in fashion under the tutelage of 'style dictator' Professor Louise Wilson. Entry standards are notoriously stringent, and rumours abound that the school has said nay to 'Ye on the grounds of a below-par portfolio. If Kanye does make it to graduation (last pun we promise) he'll join The Clash, Jarvis Cocker and the Sex Pistols as former Saint Martins students. Is Kanye set to become Kanye's favourite new designer? Thanks to Flavorwire for the news.

YRB + Fashion + 5'10” of Body + Beauty= Khloe Kardashian
A classic example of how the Internet has catapulted so many to the forefront of celebrity status, the Kardashian family has become a staple in today’s pop culture, and as Khloe gets set to embark on new journeys we’re sure the Dash klan will never be far behind. Interview by Perez Hilton Photography by Mike Ruiz Styling by Darius Baptist Makeup by Joyce Bonelli Hair by Clyde Haygood
Khloe Alexandra Kardashian Odom, youngest member of the media-hounded, paparazzi-stalked trio of sisters better known simply as the Kardashians, has just arrived in the building. Wearing skinny jeans, a sheer floral blouse and Emu boots, this brass talking, take no prisoners type of girl makes her way into L.A.'s Miahaus Studios ready to create magic. Aware of the fact that the theme of the shoot is a departure from how people normally see her, Khloe welcomes the opportunity to showcase another side of herself. “I've always wanted to do an edgier photo shoot,” she quips. “But so often people think I'm not capable of pulling it off.” Forever being compared to her sisters Kim and Kourtney, Khloe is just about always viewed as the “big” one that people are a little skeptical to take the chance on. Standing at 5'10” (in comparison to Kourtney at 5'0” and Kim at 5'2”) and not nearly the size people think she is, Khloe is a real woman with the curves to prove it. She's quick to let you know it's a constant issue for her, but not one that will stop her from doing what she needs to get done. “I get tired of trying to show people I can do other things and experiment with my look just as much as my sisters. So what I do is wait for the platform to do something out of the box with people who believe I can do it, and when the doubters come back around and suddenly show interest after the fact, I now have the power and decide if I feel like entertaining the matter with them.” Being the type that doesn't bite her tongue when it comes to saying what's on her mind has proven to be a quality that resonates with the public. It seems that the majority feels that out of the three Armenian beauties, Khloe is the realest. So real, in fact, that last October, when Khloe taped the video of her experience being bullied and blamed Perez Hilton as the main culprit, the media jumped on it and refused to let it go. This example of how bullying affects even celebs forced Perez to re-evaluate his approach to what he says and writes about people from that point forward. Since then, the two of them have aired out their differences and moved on. Exemplifying the power of the Internet – as well as the power of forgiveness – the “Queen” of all media got ready to interview one of the princesses of today's pop culture. But trying to bring these two forces together proved to be more difficult than expected. Between Khloe's uber-hectic schedule (taping her show, making appearances, photo shoots and endorsing countless products) and Perez's chaotic lifestyle, it didn't seem like they would ever meet. Nevertheless, with all of the advances we've made in technology, it has only brought us to a place where communicating face-to-face with people is becoming more and more obsolete anyways. So it turned out to be only natural to take a voyeuristic approach to an iChat (without video) conversation between Khloe and Perez.

![]() |
| BEAUTY Kerry Washington is a “self-proclaimed” token white girl trapped in a black girl’s body. She’s a little different and she knows it, but maybe that’s what we like about her. Running the cover of the latest issue of LA Times Magazine… Kerry Washington is rockin’ some futuristic threads showing us again a part of her we have never seen before but probably wouldn’t work for anyone else. Is it beauty or what? Did she kill this shoot? Well we think so 5 stars can't wait to see what's next. |

Black Female Designers Freshen NY's Fashion Scene
By: CHERYL ANN WADLINGTON
Tuesday, November 9, 2010
It may seem hard to break into the apparel business in one of the world's fashion capitals if you happen to be Black and female, but there is hope! A new crop of black women have hit the fashion scene, attracting attention with distinct design points of view and are poised to rival many of the American fashion houses that have reigned over high-end fashion for decades. One designer, who may be well on her way to eventually reap the same amount of multimillions in revenue as her mainstream counterparts, is Anitra Mitchell, a New York-based designer and creator of fashion clothing collection Plutocracy. Launched in May of 2009, Plutocracy is a stylish, mid-priced collection of women’s wear designed for what Mitchell refers to as “the multifaceted professional woman with a desire to express her individuality while showcasing a style that is creatively polished.”
Unlike many of the faces behind today’s onslaught of celebrity-laced brands, Mitchell is a technically trained designer who started out by watching and learning. After studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), she immersed herself in the world of design by working as an assistant stylist and pattern maker’s apprentice for such brands as Vera Wang, Karl Largefield and Lanvin.
But to create excitement about her own label, Mitchell decided on debuting her first collection Classic Funk and spring 2011 collection Mythical Mayhem, during New York Fashion Week to position herself as a notable fresh presence on the fashion scene. “I think my goal for the spring 2011 line was to develop interchangeable designs that exude the individualistic style Plutocracy is known for and encourage natural bliss,” explained Mitchell. Soon after, one of her designs was featured in an Alvin Ailey National ad campaign and a nomination for The Fashion Group International Rising Star Award in the Women’s Apparel category followed. Today, Mitchell’s Plutocracy label is available in select boutiques and online stores.
Natasha Morgan, a fashion and accessories designer, who resides in New York City’s East Village, has made waves toward becoming the next style-star by garnering just as much media attention for what she wearing as for her three eye-catching luxury labels -- Natasha Morgan Kore clothing line, Natasha Morgan Framed eyewear and Fabphonecase cell phone cases.
Hitting the bevy of parties, fashion shows and events during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Morgan, blazing her own unique personal style that intertwines inspiration from singer Grace Jones, London's street-chic scene and Tokyo’s Harujuku Girl fabulousness, -- sporting everything from spiked Mohawk style hair and colorful oversize designer totes to neon pink pants and her signature geometric and futuristic eyewear. The creative energy Morgan put forth helped to create impact for her brand during the weeklong fashion festivities. Publications such as New York magazine, PatrickMcMullan.com and other influential fashion portals featured Morgan as one of New York’s most stylish people.
Morgan’s personal style is not a far stretch from her fashion brand. “I design for those who are daring and fearless and always express themselves through fashion and style cause they are very confident in how they look and don’t care what other people think,” explained the Fashion Institute of Technology alum, who has been designing for 18 years. “I find it very seductive when anyone has enough confidence to take a chance and not play ‘follow the leader’.” Morgan’s Fabphonecase cell phone cases, which come in more than 20 different styles and cost from $59 to $180, are available online at www.fabphonecase.com.
The Global Fashion Front
With American & European designers using the backdrops and fabrics of Africa as inspiration, many African designers have found their own voice and inspiration by looking within to elevate the African fashion industry. In 2005, Lisa Folawiyo and her team of craftsmen burst onto the Nigerian fashion scene with a label named Jewel by Lisa (JBL). In less than five years, Lisa perfected the art of wearing Ankara textile, being the first to embellish the fabric with sequins, Swarovski crystals and beads, thus, establishing her line into a coveted luxury label. Starting out with Ankara skirts, the label has now expanded into designing a diverse range of dresses, skirts, tops, jeweled accessories, and soft furnishings.
Folawiyo’s label has grown with a strong clientele, and international interest. Last year, her collection was revealed at the Spring 2010 Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week and featured in The New York Post, Style.com, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), Arise and Glamour (South Africa). Such celebrities as Sienna Miller and Kelis have also worn her collection, which is currently sold at Zainab Boutique in Los Angeles, African Mosaique in Johannesburg, and online at: www.EvesApple.com and www.myasho.com.
