Gabrielle Union Dishes On Dwyane Wade's Ex

Gabrielle Union spoke up about her relationship with Dwyane Wade and how his struggles with his estranged wife, Siovaughn. The NBA star and his ex have been embroiled in a contentious divorce for several years and a painful custody battle. Gabby admitted that Siovaughn's well-documented antics have put something of a strain on their relationship.

"It’s hard because, aside from loving him, I want to protect myself," she told TT Torres. "I’ve built my life. I built my own brand. I built my career and my career took a hit from that madness because some people refuse to see the truth, even when it’s presented to them time and time again. I love him but at some point it’s about self preservation and I needed to protect myself and everything I built."

"I pay for my family. I pay for my mommy and my daddy and my sisters and her family," she added. "‘D’ doesn’t write those checks, I do, so when something is starting to effect the way I make a living, ‘No No No baby’, let me figure out a way for me to protect our home that me and Dwyane have with the kids, you have to put them first. You have to put their love of their mom, their love of peace of mind and love of consistency first, and then I have to make sure I can still feed my own family. Luckily, by taking the high road and not engaging in the back and forth craziness, I was able to do both. Luckily, by doing the right thing and putting the children first, it worked out that I was able to save myself."

Gabrielle Union On Scrutiny

Sexy Hollywood starlet Gabrielle Union may be in a high-profile relationship with Miami Heat baller Dwyane Wade, but she says the scrutiny isn't something she's worried about. According to Gabby, the photogenic couple has it a lot easier than some celebrities--even though things can get a bit much sometimes when they're out.

"We don’t get it too bad," says Union. "It is when we are with the kids on the beach and photographers are there. They didn’t sign up for that, you know? Or when we are with our friends and they are like, “Um, I don’t want my bikini body being photographed!” I always feel bad."

When asked if Miami or Los Angeles was most overrun with paparazzi, Gabby gave a two-sided answer.

"That is a tough one. Miami when it comes to the beaches. When we are in Los Angeles, we can be in Malibu and no one knows," she says. "But the difference here is restaurants. We can go to popular restaurants and everyone leaves us be."

"It's part of the gig. We recognize [that]as part of being together in the public eye."

Gabrielle Union Talks Relationships

Gabrielle Union doesn't always talk about her relationship with NBA baller Dwyane Wade, but Gabby opened up in a recent interview about her life with the Miami Heat star and what her plans are for the future. Could babies be somewhere down the line?

"D and I have a life together, too. I love my life in Miami, I can't imagine functioning without both, I love the design district, I love Midtown, I love what's happening downtown now. I can be at People's Bar-B-Que or Sustain or Prime One Twelve, and I'm comfortable. It's rare for me to feel that level of freedom. Miami represents joy for me."

"I was never someone who thought about having kids – I mean, they're great in theory, but I never imagined having one [myself]. Maybe over the next five years I could wrap my brain around becoming a mother and what that would mean in terms of sacrifice and dedication. I don't do anything impulsively, so more toward the five years out than the one-year."

Miami Heat superstar guard Dwyane Wade turned 30 this weekend and his girlfriend, actress Gabrielle Union, had R&B singer Kelly Rowland serenade her boo thang during a birthday ceremony that included T.I., Common, Usher and Rick Ross.

"Thank you everybody for coming to my honey’s 30th! Thank God he’s 30," Union said to the crowd. "I was almost starting to sound like a pervert but because my honey is all about the love of chocolate there’s no badder b*tch on the planet who represents the chocolate better than Miss Kelly Rowland. If you needed a little motivation to get your ass back in the gym in 2012 Kelly Rowland and her tight ass abs are here for a little treat."

Lebron James was also on -hand to celebrate his teammates birthday as Ms. Kelly sang a song for the star and his star-studded cadre of friends.

Gabrielle Union Addresses "Man Down"

Actress Gabrielle Union has spoken candidly about being raped as a teen. The beauty decided to add her perspective to the ongoing controversy surrounding Rihanna's "Man Down" video. In the video, Rihanna shoots a man who sexually assaulted her. Union decided to advise anyone going through a similar situation to take a different path.

“Saw “Man Down” by Rihanna. Every victim/survivor of rape is unique, including how they THINK they’d like justice [to] be handed out," Union shared. "[During] my rape I tried [to] shoot my rapist, but I missed. Over the years I realized that killing my rapist would’ve added insult to injury. The DESIRE [to] kill someone who abused/raped [you] is understandable, [but] unless it’s self defense in the moment to save your life, just ADDS to your troubles #mandown. I repeat SELF DEFENSE 2 save yourself/protect yourself, I’m ALL for. Otherwise victim/survivor taking justice into your own hands with violence equals more trouble for you!!”

Gabrielle Union Hates Reality TV

Gabrielle Union has been dating Dwyane Wade for years, but don't expect the beautiful actress to be appearing on any "Basketball Wives"-style reality shows in the near future. Union dismissed reality TV and the women who flock to be on those shows in a recent interview with Hip Hollywood.

"I pay my own bills, first off," Gabrielle said. "So I’ve never put myself in a position to have to be jackass or to have to sell myself down the river for a reality show. I was just raised a little differently and my situation is a lot different being that I have my own career, my own celebrity status on my own, independent, and before him. But, I don’t knock anybody’s hustle, it’s just not my path."
