Watch The Throne Documentary

Here is the full 11-minute mini documentary for Watch The Throne. This documentary is an inside look at the making of Kanye West and Jay Z’s collaborative album, “Watch The Throne”. Directed, Edited, and Photographed by Robert Lopuski.
In the world of hip-hop, anybody who does something different is a genius, anybody who does something successful is making history; you know it all becomes these exaggerated, bombastic endeavors. And so, for me, I was not interested in that; I was more interested in the smaller moments. The quiet power of talent. - Robert Lopuski.

Kanye Spazzes On Fan

Kanye West snapped on a concertgoer this weekend at his "Watch the Throne" concert in France. Apparently, Yeezy gets ticked off when fans bring laser lights into his shows, and he let an onlooker have it during the performance.
Footage surface showing West shouting at a fan for using the device.
"You see this guy right here with the green laser? Don't f**k up everybody's show ... it's not a f**king game!" West shouts. "You gonna get f**ked up, kicked out, and all that s**t. Chill the f**k out."
Yeezy don't play dat.

The-Dream Defends Gwyneth

Gwyneth Paltrow found herself in the middle of controversy after tweeting "N***as In Paris, for real" during Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Watch the Throne" performance in France this week. While she later tweeted that she was only referencing the song title, superproducer The-Dream--who was also at the show, came to the Oscar-winner's defense.
"FYI, sorry for the confusion," The-Dream tweeted. "I typed 'N----- in Paris for real' from Gwen's phone, my bad."
"Please excuse it! We were lit," he added.
Can you say 'damage control?'

Gwyneth Paltrow's N-Bomb

Gwyneth Paltrow slide down hip hop's slipperiest of slopes when she tweeted the N-word while watching Jay-Z and Kanye West perform on their "Watch the Throne" tour in Paris. The Oscar-winning actress referenced the duo's smash single "N*ggas In Paris," but some fans didn't appreciate her use of the term.
"N*ggas in Paris for real @mrteriusnash," Paltrow tweeted.
Of course, many of her Twitter followers took exception to her word choice. "Hold up," she responded. "It's the title of the song!"
Paltrow didn't acknowledge the backlash any further.

"Watch the Throne" Sequel Coming

Watch the Throne was one of the biggest albums of 2011, and fans could expect a sequel from Jay-Z and Kanye. Mike Dean revealed during a recent interview that the two stars will be working on another joint project. He did admit that there is no current material, however.
"I'm working on the G.O.O.D. Music album of course, " Dean shared, when asked about his upcoming projects. "[I'm working on] Watch the Throne 2, which is not started yet, but that's coming."
Dean is one of hip hop's most celebrated and longest-tenured producers. He has worked with West before, as well as several other hip hop luminaries, most notably Scarface and 2Pac.

Katy Perry Covers "N***as In Paris"

Pop star Katy Perry surprised the audience during a performance on BBC Radio 1's live lounge in England when, instead of performing one of her own hits, she donned a Yankee cap and offered up a cover of Jay-Z and Kanye West's hit "N***as In Paris."
It was slightly edited, of course.
Backed with a live band, Perry performed the cut much to the fans and hosts' delight, in a singsongy style--which she was quick to point out was 'not' rapping.

Jay-Z & Kanye Settle Lawsuit

Pete Rock, who produced theWatch the Throne track, said that sample was added after he was done with his work on the song.

Jay-Z & Kanye Thanked For Disclaimer

Jay-Z and Kanye West are being commended for including a medical disclaimer at the beginning of their new video for the smash hit "N***as In Paris." It is being reported that the disclaimer actually helped prevent epileptic seizures for some viewers. According to TMZ, reps from the Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy and the Epilepsy Therapy Project thanked the rappers for their thoughtfulness.
"50,000 individuals lose their lives each year due to seizures and related causes," explained a member of the Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy group. "We applaud artists like Kanye West and Jay-Z who recognize the potential dangers in their videos, movies and performances and are conscientious enough to warn patients and their families about the risks."
[We] appreciate the sensitivities that Kanye and Jay-Z showed in appropriately warning individuals with photosensitive epilepsy that their video may cause seizures. Given the 4 million people who suffer from epilepsy in the US alone, we need to work together with the music industry on how best to destigmatize the condition and stop seizures and epilepsy once and for all so everyone can enjoy the music," the rep added.

Lil Wayne Disses Jay-Z & Kanye Again

Lil Wayne is still slinging darts at fellow hip hop superstar Jay-Z. This time, Weezy made a thinly-veiled reference to Jay and Kanye West's blockbuster Watch the Throne album during a freestyle rhyme at the Cash Money pre-Grammy party.
"I met a bad red bone, I took the b*tch home / I asked her what she want to watch, she said surely not The Throne," Wayne rapped.
Since the 'beef' began about a year ago with Jay-Z making his own subtle digs at Cash Money founder Bryan "Baby" Williams, Wayne has been lyrically digging at Jay. But since those initial jabs, Jay has backed off of any potential feud.

Jon Heder On "N***as In Paris:"

A few months after Blades of Glory star Will Ferrell shared his reaction to the ice-skating comedy being sampled by Jay-Z and Kanye West on their hit "N***as In Paris," fellow actor Jon Heder--who played Ferrell's skating sidekick in the film and who's voice was also featured on the sample, shared his confused-but-flattered response to being on the song.
"I actually heard about it after the fact," Heder revealed in an interview. "Then I called up my manager like 'What's going on here? Is there some kind of compensation happening?' It was like 'Whatever, the glory of the song is your compensation Jon. Listen to it.' I was like, 'All right.' I am like one of those in Paris. [I'm a part of history?] Yeah, I guess, we have to give it probably a few more years to see its history. ... I'm not quite sure what the connection is but I feel very but I feel very honored. It's a compliment right?"
Heder most famously starred as the goofy title character in the 2004 cult comedy Napoleon Dynamite.

Looking Back: The 2011 Hip Hop 100

2011 was an eventful year for hip hop. The emergence of new superstars, the affirmation of established legends and their greatness and the sad, untimely deaths of a pair of 90s hip hop legends all gave resonance to the past year. HipHopBlog.com once again decided to list the 100 individuals that sat at the top of hip hop's cache in 2011, and we've included a diverse roster of artists, executives, entrepreneurs and personalities.
There were several new faces that changed the 2011 hip hop landscape. Upstarts like the West Coast collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All and Pittsburgh stoner-rap star Wiz Khalifa became household names, while indie maverick Mac Miller reshaped the way a new artist can promote themselves and their art. Several of hip hop's most 'thoughtful' artists found themselves embroiled in controversy this year; with Lupe Fiasco, Common and the Roots all sitting at the center of political firestorms and proving why they are among hip hop's best-suited for such debates.
At the very top of hip hop music and culture, moguls like Diddy and Jay-Z continued to display a golden touch in 2011. Both men were among the year's top earners, and both men had much success throughout the year--both as artists (Diddy's Dirty Money project, Jay-Z's uber-successful Watch the Throne) campaign, and as executives with Bad Boy Records and Roc Nation, respectively.
Hip hop is an ever-evolving artform and a thriving culture. The Hip Hop 100 celebrates both sides of the coin and reminds fans and artists that there are a myriad of ways to make your presence felt in the game. These are the people that have mastered all of them.

Jay-Z & Kanye's Dubai Payday

Kanye West and Jay-Z reportedly received a huge payday to perform at a high-profile birthday party in Dubai. As superduo "The Throne," the hip hop superstars were asked to take the stage for billionaire Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour's 16 year old sister's birthday party before Christmas.
It is being reported that Jay and Kanye took home slightly under $3 million each for the gig.
Stars ranging from 50 Cent to Nelly Furtado have been paid massive sums of money to perform in the Middle East before, but Jay and Kanye's payday for a one-time gig was an eye-opener. The duo recently wrapped their highly-successful "Watch the Throne" tour.

"N***as In Paris" Subway Guy Speaks

Terrane Hicks, the man performing Jay-Z and Kanye's hit "N***as In Paris" on the NYC subway in what has become the season's biggest YouTube hit, shared his reaction to his newfound celebrity in an interview with Miss Info. Hicks is a personal trainer and martial artist and claims he was sober when he performed the song impromptu for bewildered passengers.
"Well, everyone I know keeps calling me and hysterically laughing. I love it. Love the excitement and I'm actually going to try to take this somewhere! ... I was born and raised in Harlem, recently moved to Brooklyn. I'm a martial artist and I own a personal training company called Skye Fitness. [Was I drunk?] No, actually I was totally sober. I am like this all the time. I'm just a hype person. ... No, I don't normally rap out loud but that's one of those songs that gets you hype! I really didn't care what the other riders thought. That's that song!!! And yes, I was definitely trying to entertain my fellow commuters."

Kanye West Blasts Fan At Watch The Throne Concert

Kanye West got into a heated exchange with a fan during a Watch The Throne tour stop in Tacoma, Washintgon this past weekend. The fan tossed a business card onstage, annoying the famously-moody star.
"Who's business card is this?" he demanded when the song ended. "I seen it come from that direction so like, all four of them got to go."
"Unless one person raise their hand and say they did it, that whole section has to go," he added. Once the person admitted they'd thrown the card, security ushered them out.
"These cubes going 20 feet up in the air, fam," he said. "We risking our lives up here. You can't be throwing s*** that we gonna slip on."
