DJ Khaled Thankful For Jail?

DJ Khaled spoke about his beginnings and struggles prior to becoming one of the most recognized DJs in hip hop. In a recent interview, the Miami-based star revisited his homeless days, working multiple jobs and how one event in his young adulthood helped him to refocus his energy:
Going to jail.
"I used to go to jail every weekend in Orlando," he recalls. "I had a court date in Orlando--flew [in] from New Orleans. I didn't know I was gonna go to jail when I went to court. You don't expect that. You go to court thinking it's going to be another fine, go to school. But the judge was like, 'You not learning your lesson. You keep driving.' It woke me up. I'm glad it happened. The day I got out is the day I moved to Miami."

DJ Khaled Discusses RZA & Rev. Run

DJ Khaled took part in BMI's "How I Wrote the Song" panel last weekend. Sitting alongside other musical heavyweights, Khaled's resume is as impressive as anyone's--but there were two hip hop icons that the Miami star felt the need to pay homage to. Khaled told HiphopDX that sharing time with RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan and Rev. Run of Run-D.M.C. made the experience uniquely special.
"That’s RZA from Wu Tang!" Khaled said enthusiastically. "For him to say that he wants to do some stuff with me is a blessing. He was a major influence on me as a producer and as an artist. He was a visionary. He was ahead of his time. He was so left field with his beats but they were so amazing. They’re timeless! You could listen to them now, from “Triumph” to “C.R.E.A.M.” and it’s just classic. It’s a blessing, man."
"On Rev Run’s situation, I would say “Peter Piper” is my favorite record of all time, actually," Khaled continued. "As a deejay, I used to love to cut it up and I still love to cut it up. The production, the breaks, from the intro, to [rhyming as Run], “Not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good!” You know, that’s not a regular song. That’s a real special song. I’m excited. I might even ask him a few questions!

50 Cent On DJ Pauly D:

50 Cent talked about his signing of DJ Pauly D to G-Unit Records. Fif says that Pauly has the potential to be on the level of famous DJs like DJ Khaled or David Guetta, and he feels that Pauly could help expand the rapper's G-Unit brand and identity.
"When Pauly came by to see me, they had options," 50 says. "They had several places that they were going, and people that were interested in doing a deal with him. Obviously, the momentum from "Jersey Shore" was spun off into him being the first one to have his own independent series. They're moving places and DJing in front of bigger audiences, and getting ready to make moves internationally, where the DJ is the star, overseas. When I sat with him, I saw the opportunities we could have moving forward, with brand extension and packaging the music...I look forward to it. I call him "the bridge." He's going to be something between what you would get from a DJ Khaled or a DJ Drama and what you would get from David Guetta."

Pill, DJ Khaled Discuss Rick Ross' Health

DJ Khaled and Pill both weighed in on Miami rapper Rick Ross' health issues in a recent interview. Both men are close associates of Ross, who suffered two seizures in one day while traveling to a show in Memphis. Both say that Ross is fine now, but that his work ethic may have contributed to the seizures.
“It’s the boss, it’s Ricky Rozay. We got a strong hold on the game right now, the game belongs to MMG. So if the boss is in any trouble, everybody’s gonna be concerned,” Pill told DJ Green Lantern. “I myself and the rest of the MMG, we’re very concerned. He good right now. Ross go hard, nonstop, pause. He don’t really take no breaks so I think that just was a result of him not taking breaks. But the most he ever needs is a week off and he good.”
“I am not leaving his side. He is resting, he is chilling and he is actually super focused," added Khaled. "He is at the crib and is going to rest and just chill until he gets his energy back. He is going to take everything one day by day,” he said. “I told him he has to stay home for two weeks. I told him he has got to just chill and reIax. I told him he is a big enough star that he can just stay home. His life is more important.”

Luke Isn't Backing Down

Luther "Luke" Campbell is not backing off his decree to superstar rappers like Diddy and Lil Wayne. The Miami bass pioneer and former 2 Live Crew frontman blasted his fellow hip hop stars for coming to his city to party and blow money but don't invest in the community in any way.
In an interview with DJ Khaled, Luke continued his criticisms.
"I look at you and I look at myself, just like I look at [Pitbull], Trick [Daddy] and all those guys, I've been a part of their lives," Luke told DJ Khaled. "You, unfortunately, you have a special thing. You're bringing a lot of guys down here. A lot of guys are coming here, moving here because you showing love -- but when you come down here to live and don't do anything for the community, that becomes a problem...Anybody that's coming here, plan on moving here, whether its Puff Daddy, Lil' Wayne, or whoever it may be, they need to understand that. They need to understand if you gonna be part of this community you got to be fully part of the community. You can't just come here. You don't need to be here just sitting here squatting, eating our food and partying. Do something in the community."

Lil Wayne Responds To Luke

Lil Wayne has responded to criticism from Uncle Luke after the 2 Live Crew head previously called him out.

As previously reported, Luke wrote a lengthy article for the Miami New Times, threatening Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, Diddy and any other rappers in Miami that are not active contributors to the city.

He writes,
"I'm tired of seeing these cats using up our beaches, soaking up our sunshine, taking over the nightclubs, and sleeping with our women without investing anything into the community. I want to know when Lil Wayne is going to do more than show up courtside at the American Airlines Arena.
They rap in their songs about King of Diamonds and LIV nightclub, where Lil Wayne was partying it up with Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks after they beat the Miami Heat for the NBA championship.

I want to see them doing fundraisers to help youth sports and after school programs. I want to see them at FCAT rallies. I want to see them do like Pitbull who works closely with the Kiwanis Club in Little Havana and DJ Irie who puts on a charity weekend for the Make-A-Wish Foundation."

Now Lil Wayne has responded to Luke's allegations and even fired a shot at DJ Khlaed himself.

DJ Khaled Discusses the N-Word

Miami's DJ Khaled defended his constant use of the N-word in an interview with DJ Green Lantern on Invasion Radio [video here]. Khaled, who is Palestinian, says he grew up using the word and thinks people should look at context. He feels he's earned the right to use the term as long as it's not negative.
"I'm a n*gga," Khaled said. "If somebody ever took that in an arrogant -- If someone thinks it in another way, they dumb. I grew up like that. It's slang. It's actually a positive word the way that I use it, the way that Ace [Hood] is using it. If you think like that, that goes back to the Internet. The hate."
"For me to say 'We the best, oooo weeee n*gga, we the best!' You know what I'm talking about," Khaled added. "N*ggas that's thinking that is dumb f*cks. Once again, I'd like to shout out the fans who love this music. What makes me mad, when I grew up, n*ggas was calling me sand n*gga. That's ignorant, because there's only one way to say it. You can't say, 'Yo what up my sand n*gga?' That's not the way we grew up in the streets -- When I say 'What up my n*gga,' I say that to Green all the time. 'What up my nig?' That's just me greeting you with love. But if somebody takes it another way, they dumb."

Pauly D & 50 Cent Working On Music

Pauly D & 50 Cent Working On Music
DJ Pauly D may have surprised many when it was announced he was joining 50 Cent's G-Unit label, but the "Jersey Shore" star is dead serious about his career on the label. Pauly revealed recently that he is focused solely on recording and is working closely with 50 himself on projects.
He says that the two of them are currently working on an album.
"I'm focusing on music. That's my my passion. I'm working with 50 Cent now. I'm gonna do an album with him. It's going to be a little bit of everything," Pauly D tells Billboard. "It's almost like DJ Khaled and kind of David Guetta but my own DJ Pauly D style."
