Troy Davis Executed, Hip Hop Reacts

Death Row inmate Troy Davis was executed last night (September 21) shortly after 11pm, much to the shock and dismay of supporters around the world. Over 1,000,000 people had signed a petition to prevent Davis' execution and a crowd of protesters had gathered outside of the prison in Jackson, GA where Davis was to be executed in the hopes of stopping the killing. Despite everyone's efforts, the Supreme Court denied a stay of execution and Davis' life was lost. Davis was convicted of killing a security guard in 1989, but several witnesses later recanted their stories and another suspect reportedly even confessed to other people that he had pulled the trigger.
Davis had garnered support from former United States president Jimmy Carter, Pope Benedict XVI, former FBI director William Sessions and others. Several hip hop notables tweeted their reactions to the news:
"May God be with Troy Davis!!!!" Cash Money/Young Money President Mack Maine tweeted.

"REST IN POWER AND IN PEACE #TROY DAVIS!!! BLESSINGS 2 UR FAMILY AS WELL," Busta Rhymes responded once the news had broken. "I think executions should be broadcast live on television," Russell Simmons tweeted. "Let us see the barbarianism we've sanctioned."

"Troy Davis was executed six minutes ago...Wow. The American Justice System. SMH," Ice-T tweeted about the execution.

I just want 2 say if u lost some1 2 violence. Start @ the court system start higher then the police. Keep trying cuz the killing will not stop until they stop. Ppl do wat they see. R.I.P Troy.

this is so sad
the fact that another man admitted to being the true killer and the s/c allowed this to happen is further proof of the racism in our system.
support the innocence project

man when will the Black communities realize that we can't become them.... because we still won't get catered to like they do... when will they realize that we can't have babies by them in hopes that it would change their status quo and change the futures for their children when would they just realize everything they tried to avoid must be done WE NEED TO DO THIS TOGETHER AS 1 CULTURE ON OUR OWN... because at the end of the day it isn't just minorities anymore it's just BLACK PEOPLE that do suffer and the wannabe black people that suffer it's hard to be a black man or woman STAY IN SCHOOL AND EDUCATE YOURSELF if you have children or neighbors that want to learn and willing even if they are unwilling to learn EDUCATE THEM let them know... that we are alone... at the end of the day the BLACK COMMUNITIES are alone.... :( R.I.P. TROY DAVIS you weren't the first one who was a victim to the system but you won't be the last :((

Troy Davis! Such a sad story, not fair at all but i want ppl to understand that this has nothing to do w/ Obama, If u understand the rules & presidential laws then you will know that Obama has rules he has to follow too, he is the president not a King, he had no authority over that state issue & Even tho it may have been a racist decision. Know, that there were a lot of White ppl out there protesting against his execution. So lets not make this a crazy racial war when its really not.
