50 Cent Discusses Dr. Dre, DJ Drama

50 Cent is prepping his first-ever "Gangsta Grillz" mixtape alongside famed mixtape guru DJ Drama, and the rapper spoke to Shade 45 about the project and why he feels it represents a significant change in direction for him as an artist who did much to build the current mixtape culture.
"I never really, on the mixtapes, reach out and put the people I needed to put on to make it feel like it was a different energy," explained 50 Cent. "It was me doing what I want to do, and of course, putting the artists around me on the tape to get them that exposure."
"This go-round, I said, 'Because it's 'Gangsta Grillz,' it's an event for me!'" he added. "'Gangsta Grillz' is actually the biggest mixtape brand you can be associated with. Everyone else has lost the consistency."
50 also briefly discussed his relationship with mentor Dr. Dre and Dre working with 50's longtime rival, Rick Ross, recently. "You know what I know about Dre? Creatively, he's saying, 'If there's a hit, wherever it is, I'm going to go get it,'" 50 explains. "I don't care. These are people I have strong relationships with that have done things for me. You don't bite the hand that feeds you. I've been raised that way. ...What is 50 Cent's career minus 'In Da Club?'"

Lil Wayne Settles "Lollipop" Suit

Rapper Lil Wayne has settled a $20 million lawsuit with producer Darius "Deezle" Harrison over Wayne's 2008 hit "Lollipop." Harrison filed the suit back in 2011 for unpaid work for the single and other work on 2008's blockbuster album Tha Carter III.
The album grossed more than $70 million and Deezle indicated that he would accept a payout of $20 million.
The two parties settled the matter privately and the case is now dismissed.

Snoop Dogg Sued Over Mid East Tour

Rapper Snoop Dogg is being sued by a Lebanese promoter over money the promoter says he is owed for a Middle Eastern tour. Roger Kalaouz and Associates claim that Snoop also damaged his reputation by smoking marijuana at a bar in Beirut.
Kalaouz says that his company promoted his first concert in the Middle East and spent $800,00 to publicize the event back on August 20th, 2009.
"KA's longstanding reputation as one of Lebanon's premier entertainment promoters has been severely damaged. RKA has been subjected to scrutiny and accusations due to the actions of Snoop Dogg and DSM directly arising from activities to which RKA was not a party," the suit alleges.
Kalaouz is seeking damages for "breach of contract, fraud, concealment, conspiracy and false promise, unfair competition, and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage."

Drake Hooking Up With Rita Ora?

Drake has been linked to his fair share of sexy starlets, but the rumors are now flying regarding the Young Money star and one of music's most talked-about newcomers. Drizzy booked Roc Nation singer Rita Ora as the opening act for his upcoming UK tour, and, of course, the rumors have started spreading that the two are romantically involved.
They were reportedly spotted kissing backstage at a recent gig.
"Ora and Drake have been good friends for a while now but things seemed more serious this week. They were all over each other backstage at the gig on Monday and weren`t trying to hide it," an unnamed source said.

Kanye Can't Keep His Pants Up

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West spottings have become daily occurrences for the New York City paparazzi. But just a few days after being spotted holding hands, Yeezy and Kimmy were seen out and about again, but Kanye apparently had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction.
The two ate at N62 in Manhattan and when they went back to Yeezy's place, Kanye stepped out of his Maybach with his pants down.
The rapper's thigh was briefly exposed before he pulled his pants back up. Now, it would be classless to presume any illicit behavior led to Kanye's pants problem.
Right?

Nicki Minaj Defends Her Singing

Nicki Minaj got very defensive in a recent interview with The Guardian. The interviewer asked Minaj if she had alienated some of her fans with her forays into pop singing, and Nicki's response was swift and direct. The Young Money rapper says that critics haven't really followed her career--if they had, they'd know that she's been singing for years.
"That’s the thing. I really want you to write that. Because it’s the most bullsh-t thing I’ve ever heard – you liked me only when I was doing rap? I never only did rap," she explained. "My first single was called 'Your Love,' and it was a pop song. I did a song called 'Knockout' with Lil Wayne about three years ago. Nobody said anything about that. Why? Because it didn’t become huge like 'Starships.'"
"That’s what irritates me. People always want to talk about who I was, but I’ve always been singing, always been experimenting with pop music," she continued. "So the fact that it got huge one day--should I apologize for that? Should I apologize that 'Starships' and 'Super Bass' did well, and children like them, and middle America can sing along? There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m just broadening my fan base. I think everyone should enjoy music."

Mariah & Nick's European Getaway

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon seem to be enjoying themselves all over Europe. The superstar couple flew to Paris a few days ago to renew their vows and decided to give the French paps a few Public Displays of Affection and now they've been snapped getting cozy before departing to Austria.
Mariah and Nick were all over each other outside their hotel, before got they packed up the twins to head to Austria; where they will be spending the kiddies' first birthday.
Nothing like being in love...and insanely rich.

Waka Flocka Isn't Retiring

Waka Flocka Flame became the latest rapper to threaten retirement late last year when he alleged that he'd 'rather work at Wal-Mart' than continue rapping. But, of course, now that his tantrum is over, the Atlanta rap star has backed off of his earlier statement.
He says that he's focused on his second album and has worked too hard to walk away.
Yet.
“I’m on my second one, so the third one might be true," he told Hip Hop Wired. "I don’t know. The way they treat me, I spent my lifetime trying to do this. I don’t see myself quitting no more, it’s over for that. On to the next one.”
Rappers never retire when they say so.

J. Dilla's Record Collection Resurfaces

In Royal Oaks, Michigan, record store owner Jeff Bubeck discovered what could possibly be 7,000 records and tapes that belonged to the late J. Dilla. The famed hip hop producer had a well-documented personal collection of vinyl, and according to the Detroit News, the owner of the record store UHF found the records in a storage unit in Clifton Township.
“It was pretty shocking,” Bubeck told the Detroit News. “I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’”
It is being reported that some of the albums, including titles from 1970s Detroit jazz label Tribe Records, have significant value.
Bubeck says he planning to share sales proceeds with the J Dilla Foundation, although recent contacts to Dilla's mother, "Ma Dukes" Yancey, have been “unsuccessful.”

L.E.P. Bogus Boys Barred From Stage

The L.E.P. Bogus Boys were barred from performing by the Chicago Police department at an upcoming A$AP Rocky show. According to the group, the police felt that the group's lyrics contained violent imagery that would make it unsafe for them to perform at the House of Blues.
"We received an email from Don C, [West's] manager [who] was promoting the show at the House of Blues, saying that Chicago Police are shutting L.E.P. down," they explained. "[The] circumstances are not known, 'cus we've performed already three times at the House of Blues, no violence, not trouble…they said that due to the violence that's happening around [and] the type of music that we make [we can't perform]."
"The situation that's going on in Chicago is not about music," he added. "If you're going to target music, you might as well target television. It's poverty; there's no jobs, there's no eating. You have to contribute that to the violence. It has nothing to do with the music or what have you…right now, I guess we're going to have to protest and actually go into the city of Chicago and explain to people…we're doing music, we're not promoting violence."

Drake Leaves Toronto

Rapper Drake played a huge role in putting Toronto on the hip hop map, but the Young Money superstar has announced that he will no longer be living in his hometown full-time. The star says that he has moved to Los Angeles and that it has helped inspire him musically.
"I think that my mood will be reflected in the tempos that I choose for the music," Drake said. "A lot of Take Care, it's down, a lot of it's down and I think a lot of that had to do with being back home in Toronto and getting reacquainted with the life I had before and the difficulties of that, but at the same time trying to express excitement and trying to express joy."
"There's just so much going on for me in the U.S. that I recently made the move to L.A.," he said. "It's a new atmosphere, getting to know new people. It's going to be a very interesting album."

Warren G. Addresses Rihanna Photo

Warren G. spoke up about the now-infamous photo of he, Rihanna and Snoop Dogg at Coachella. The photo was one of many that featured Rih-Rih (ahem) 'enjoying herself' at the festival, and Warren says it was all in fun.
"I mean, we was just having fun," Warren G told SOHH. "We were just hanging out after the show, you know, just chilling out. That's it. It wasn't nothing more than that. We were just having fun and happened to snap a cold picture. I don't know who blasted it but I seen it and then I blasted it [online]. [laughs] I'm down with RiRi. I am down with RiRi. We've met a few times. I actually went to her birthday party and I told her happy birthday. It was a nice little private exclusive birthday party, it was dope. Then I had seen her at a charity event and we actually were supposed to link up and do some work. So hopefully we will get to. If people see this who are connected with Rihanna see this, tell her I'm ready to work. We're gonna make a song called 'Party Pooper.' [laughs]"

Yandy Smith Ready For Motherhood?

"Love & Hip Hop" star Yandy Smith is definitely excited about the prospect of becoming a mother. Smith spoke at-length about her expectations for motherhood and the baby boy she has on the way. She opened up to her former castmate, Mashonda, about the baby.
"I’m really excited to hold this baby," she says. "I can’t wait to see what all these kicks in my belly look like on the outside. I can’t wait to kiss him, smell him, play with his toes, sing him to sleep. And honestly I’ve spent so many years taking care of artist now I can take care of something that is all mine (well me and daddy’s)."
" I hope he’s just like his dad with some of me mixed in there," she added. "Smart, confident, caring, compassionate, a leader and want to see what the combination of us looks like."

Terrence J Gaining Respect?

Terrence J's tenure as a host on "106 & Park" has been a little polarizing. For some, he's clean cut and cool and for others he's cheesy and cornball, but the host/actor says that he has been able to reach a newfound level of respect since his starring turn in the ensemble comedy Think Like A Man.
"It’s been eye opening because I’ve been able to connect with people differently," he told Sway. "With '106 & Park,' I’ve always had 16 and 17 year old girls running up to me ‘Hey, we love you!' but older dudes and people my age never really gave me that respect. They grew up watching AJ and Free so it’s always kind of been standoffish. So now, I’m able to get respect from my peers."
"Just after the ‘Think Like A Man’ promo came out, a big dude walked up to me in the club and said, 'Yo, I ain’t gonna front man, I’ve hated you since the beginning man but after this movie, you alright man,'" he added. "For me that means the world, just to branch out. I love '106 & Park' and I’m so grateful that I was able to do it and I’m still able to do it but it’s good to finally start to get some outside looks."

Wiz Khalifa Downplays Waka Flocka Beef

Wiz Khalifa doesn't have a problem with anyone. At least that's what he says. The rapper recently had to downplay any rumors of a feuding between he and Kanye West; and he also has dismissed any notion of animosity on his part towards Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka Flame.
"I don't have problems with people, because if I do, I address it," Wiz told "RapFix Live." "If I feel someone disrespected me or if I feel like somebody was mentioning me in an indirect way I'ma find out how to talk to that person and then we'll squash it from there."
Despite Waka's barbs at Wiz in the media, Wiz says he would rather discuss things with Waka directly.
"What would I say to him? I really want to say it to him. We'll save it for that, it don't gotta be a public thing. It don't gotta be a peace meeting or nothing like that."

Birdman Says Lil Wayne Isn't Falling Off

Birdman took a moment to scoff at any notion that his label superstar, Lil Wayne, is losing a bit of his appeal. When asked about Weezy 'falling off,' Birdman was sure to remind the naysayers about Cash Money Records and their current track record.
"We do music for people who appreciate it," Birdman said. "That's all we can do. Keep working hard, keep grinding. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but we do what we do. We sell millions of records. Ain't nobody ever put up the numbers we put up. That's one to a million. That don't really matter."
So there you go...

50 Cent Claims Young Buck's Recordings

G-Unit head 50 Cent has laid claim to Young Buck's recordings. The rapper/mogul's G-Unit attorneys indicate that a recent motion to sell Young Buck's intellectual property doesn't disclose the specific assets. According to the Wall Street Journal, 50 Cent has asked that a bankruptcy judge block the sale until it is determined what can and cannot be sold.
“The creditors are left with no choice but to file this opposition to ensure that the trustee is not seeking to adversely affect the creditors’ rights in assets that they own, or in which they have rights and interests,” 50's attorneys claimed in papers filed last week.
50 claims that his label owns 100 percent of Buck's recording rights and thusly, has the sole right "to distribute, reproduce, and authorize adaptations and all performances in whatever form." The case is scheduled to go before a bankruptcy judge next month in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lil Boosie Lyrics Used As Evidence

Rapper Lil Boosie could have his lyrics used against him in court during his trial for first degree murder. Judge Mike Erwin has ruled that specific lyrics from one of his songs are admissible as evidence in his trial and can be used by prosecutors to show personal intent in the case.
Alvin Howard, the interrogating officer of the Baton Rouge police, claims that the specific words “187,” “murk,” and “cake” are references to Boosie allegedly hiring a hitman to murder Terry Boyd in 2009.
Boosie's attorneys argue that Officer Howard is not an expert witness in rap slang, and also claim that the prosecution may have altered the lyrics of the track in question, rendering the song inadmissible.
Boosie faces life in prison if convicted.

Wiz Khalifa Cited For Marijuana

Rapper Wiz Khalifa received a citation for marijuana in his hotel room while visiting Nashville, Tennessee. After another guest complained about smelling weed, the police arrived at the hotel, according to TMZ. The cops found a small bag of marijuana that Wiz had attempted to conceal.
The Pittsburgh-born hip hop star was given the citation, but no one was arrested.
Wiz was previously arrested for marijuana trafficking in 2010; but the charges were later dropped.

Snoop Dogg's Dick Clark Story

Snoop Dogg scoffed at any insinuation that entertainment host Ryan Seacrest could ever replace the late Dick Clark in the hearts and minds of the general public. Snoop cited Clark as being an instrumental part of his early career and went to bat for him against executives at the ABC network.
"Is Ryan Seacrest the new Dick Clark? F*ck no. D*ck Clark, a real n***a. Always a stand-up kind of guy for me. Dick Clark go to bat for Snoop Dogg all times. Dick Clark had American motherf*cking Bandstand. You hear me? With swag. ... You know why I love Dick Clark? I'm gonna tell you why. It was the early 1990's and I just dropped my sh*t, my record had just came out. And I had a song that was out that was my single, big, it was real big. blown up. It was naturally supposed to be on the 'American Music Awards' show but the song was called 'Gin & Juice' so ABC was saying, 'We don't want him on our network and he couldn't perform this song.'"
"I didn't even have to act a motherf*cking n***a, Dick Clark acted a n*gga. He went stone cold n***a on 'em," Snoop continued. "'Whatchu mean he can't perform?' He probably said, 'Whatchu mean this n***a can't perform 'Gin & Juice? This motherf*cker's a hit. If I like it, the n***a performs. I am Dick Clark. ABC ain't sh*t without me.' And they said, 'Dick, we're gonna let you win this one but he better not do anything crazy.' And you know what I did? I put my sh*t in an Afro and put in some Afrosheen -- had my sh*t sparkling like a motherf*cker, had my n***as riding on bikes -- Dr. Dre was my deejay. I hurt 'em real bad and I did it real clean. Dick Clark came to me at the end of the thing and said, 'You know what Snoop Dogg? I love you and I knew you were going to do the right thing and that's why I stood up for you.' This is Dick Clark when I was like 21 years-old, a young player. I could have went gangster and did some wild sh*t on live TV, but I played by the rules. Look at the longevity of it all. Dick Clark."

Nicki Minaj Returns To Twitter

After seemingly endless speculation, Nicki Minaj has made her official return to Twitter. The earth seemed to stop spinning once the Young Money rapstress deleted her Twitter account and devastated her 11 million followers, but now that she's returned to the site, fans can rest easy.
"*salutes the nation of Pinkslam* *hugs the barbz* *kisses the barbz*," she tweeted. "State of the Union: Dear Barbz, our nation will not be fully reinstated to 11 million for another few days as per @twitter. It takes time ;)"

"But, because they're friends for so long, it's just so easy, and that's something I love seeing about Kim," Khloe added.

Mystikal may be heading back to jail for a few months following a probation violation, but Cash Money Records head Bryan "Birdman" Williams isn't sweating it. Birdman said in an interview that the label still supports the New Orleans rhymer.

Push Is Good!!!

I'd like to share a quick story for my fellow parents. Nina applied to a very expensive (8K) summer camp this year, one that has a great SAT prep. I broke my neck getting my tax preparer docs for the financial aid application. My preparer rushed the job, I made the deadline. Nina's school failed to submit ONE PAGE to the camp, I was told Nina's application was disqualified from consideration for aid. I called and begged and protested. Nothing. I told them to move fwd w/out Aid. She was admitted. (Of course). I circled back around to a dean at the school, told him the story in writing. Asked dean at Nina's school to back up my true story. Summer camp dean just called. They found some aid for Nina. Do the most ya'll. The all the way most.

“A lot of the tracks have been my ideas – like I would take an idea from one of the guys that I’m working with, and try and put it together with a different sound that I had in my head with someone else and just try to get people to collaborate that really aren’t used to working together and to get something different from me.”
“This album is, of course, it’s been a long time, it’s been five years since I released a [solo] studio album, so this record is everything,” he told MTV. “This is everything that I’ve got to say…I guess you got to live a little, sometimes not all the time, but you’ve got to live a little and you put that in your music and it’s coming from my life.”

Wayne Brady: Freestyle Fanatic?

His good buddy Brian McKnight may have embarrassed himself with a song about making women orgasm, but Wayne Brady showed during an appearance on Sway In the Morning that he, too, can make an ass of himself musically.
Although Brady's was far less cringe-inducing.
The comedian kicked a freestyle on the show, rhyming over 2Pac and N.W.A. beats.

Specifically, Flex asked Wiz if he was shocked at the mention, to which Wiz responded "Yes."
"Because he said my name," Wiz answered. "I've gone a long time without anybody actually saying my name out loud like that. It wasn't a bad thing. It was just the fact that it was my name. That's my name. it was wild, it was wild, but nothing negative. Everybody got positive from it, so it's positive."
